legov
Asia is an enormous continent with different languages and cultures. True. Just because we sign a player from one country doesn't mean anyone across the rest of the continent would give a flying ****. Definitely not true.
SempiternalVillain
That @vheatll twitter says that 'they' are going to turn down/brush off the bid. More news tomorrow. Edited July 3, 2013 by SempiternalVillain

I know in Australia Leeds were like australias favourite Premier league team because of Viduka and Kewell. Even our very own Holman.. we got updates more than usual about Villa. Japan adore their players.. I can guarantee you a shitload of villa jerseys will sell with his name on it. Maybe not now as he's not as high profile as Honda etc but if he is a success here it'll happen. That in itself will be worthwhile. Whether other Asian countries will care.. probably not as much but they will notice. Us Aussies notice if theres a few good Kiwi's running around..Wood fella seems to be going well and Rojas just signed for a german club. Put it in England terms.. what was Giggs exposure like when he was coming through? neighbouring countries do notice.. whether they buy jerseys probably not.. but its exposure nonetheless. It's just not true - as others have said, more Asian players mean a bigger profile for the club in Asia generally, even if it doesn't always translate directly into shirt sales. And often, it does translate into extra shirt sales, even if the player isn't from the same country as the fans. In Southeast Asia, for instance, there are a lot of Park and Kagawa shirts, even though most people here don't speak Japanese or Korean - obviously this trend is strongest in parts of Asia where the national football teams are still relatively weak compared to Korea and Japan, but it doesn't mean, as people have said, that Koreans don't tend to take notice of Japanese players more than they would of non-Asian players. I've lived here for 20 years, seriously it's not true.
Ponky
The point is if dafabet have their name on the shirt of a prominent Japanese player, that shirt and by extension the sponsor's name will be seen on a regular basis by a hundred million odd Japanese people, all potential customers. Possibly not a bad investment of 8 million euros.
Ghost
Hit a possible snag here. Google translated: Kiyotake: Club can rebuff Aston Villa The Japanese remain in Nuremberg - Supposedly from eight to ten million euros the speech As the British transfer fee should have called a very high amount - speaking of eight to ten million euros - but the trade will fail. "We have sent Villa clearly said that we have no interest to make the player," says Nuremberg's sporting director Martin Bader: ".. Such requests honor us, but Hiroshi is here to stay" Kiyotakes contract runs for two years , the club is after the last years of high transfer revenues no longer dependent on such revenue. Bader wants to invest in the team, get the Switzerland international Josip Drmic from FC Zurich: On the contrary. According to media reports, the talented striker would like to switch to Nuremberg, modalities, however, would still balance. Bader called the matter "open-ended at the moment." Possible miss-translation at the end there? Bader says the player isn't for sale, but then calls the matter "open-ended." Not sure what to make of that. Ghost
Oh yeah, you're probably right. That would make sense if it was in reference to Drmic.
PaulMcGrath_5
It would be interesting to find out if he definitely has a release clause in his contract and for how much. Edited July 3, 2013 by PaulMcGrath_5
VillaForever1970
Weird, why admit an enquiry? Villa wouldn't want anyone to know as usually nobody knows properly until its done.We dont want to sell him but admit interest, why say anything at all if you want to keep him.Regardless Villa wont be back with everyone now knowing our business. I assume to reassure their fans that they will not be selling their prized asset. If he's not for sale I would also assume that we move on to the next target. El-Reacho
Was in Mexico a few years back when we had Angel, Solano, and De La Cruz. We played Bolton on the first day of the season and they had Borghetti. There were ads for the game all weekend with all the footage of the South Americans. The pre match stuff was all about Angel and Solano. Mexico's not even in South America. There's definitely interest between countries of similar relative geography. PieFacE Posted July 3, 2013 VT Supporter Share Posted July 3, 2013 Yeah I have a feeling there's not a lot in this. I imagine we've made lots of enquiries for many players to check their availability and price. It just so happens like the Bellender one it's been made public.
