I know the money in football is mad nowadays, but I can't help laugh when someone says a paltry £20k a week. I'd be content with that a year.

in terms of the modern football  20k/week is a joke for a player like Benteke

12 months ago it was a massive, massive raise for him, one he had no problem taking. It certainly wasn't a joke then. To play devil's advocate one could suggest that were it not for us signing him and paying him "a joke" £20k a week, he'd still be earning a fraction of that, rather than looking for £100k

12 months ago he'd had everything to prove himself now he's wanted by other clubs he's showed his worth and his potential. if Villa is so desperate to keep him yes then is 40k/week a joke offer.

You're believing something you've read off a blog site. You don't really know what we've offered him though.

I think one of the most telling things  highlighted by Benteke's dispute is his paltry £20,000 per week wages. As Belgian Guy's dad points out if the rumours are correct that our Club value him  at £25M then surely he should have pro rata wages as a reflection of this.

I personally value Benteke at £35M minimum, thus £100k should be his minimum wage.

Had we paid that for him that logic works for me. Perhaps that's what we should be paying him in those circumstances. We didn't. He came as a <£7m striker who we took a chance on, who did well for one season and was offered an improved deal - as were others of the class of 2012 and they signed up.

If he wants that salary level and can get it elsewhere, the buying club need to pay the going transfer rate for a player of that calibre and any premium we decide to demand extra to compensate us for the fact we don't need or want to sell and will have to source and fund an adequate replacement.

Under no circumstances should we give a five-fold increase to a player who has a good season in the first year of his contract because he gets all L'Oreal on us.

he followed every step of that scenario its not his fault hes been false promised by tottenham.

:crylaugh: Then that should be telling him something about them and maybe he should be seriously examining his options and whether he wants to go to a club whose sovereign currency seems to be deceit and false promises!

tbh if u look at the facts at tottenham

he would there be the 1st striker (since defoe and aby are going away)

he would play with at least 2 national teamplayers(possibly 3)

he would get a reasonable salary that fits his worth

he would play in europe  league

he would be in his favourite league

tbh it would be a pretty logical step

Good for Benteke not Aston Villa.

I said this weeks ago. You can't on one hand claim to value a player at say 25m and then only offer them 40k a week

You can if he's got 3 years on a £20k pw contract. And if he doesn't like it he's perfectly entitled to hand in a transfer request

Looking at players with 13+ Premiership goals in the last four seasons starting with 2012/13.

2013:

26 - Van Persie, 23 - Suarez, 21 - Bale, 19 - Benteke, 18 - Michu, 17 - Lukaku, 15 - Ba, Berbatov, Lambert, Lampard, 14 - Dzeko, Walcott.

2012:

30 - Van Persie, 27 - Rooney, 23 - Aguero, 17 - Adebayor, Dempsey, Yakubu, 16 - Ba, 15 - Holt, 14 - Dzeko, 13 - Balotelli, Cisse.

2011:

20 - Berbatov, Tevez, 18 - Van Persie, 17 - Bent, 15 - Odemwingie, 13 - Campbell, Hernandez, Kuyt, Malouda, Van Der Vaart.

2010:

29 - Drogba, 26 - Rooney, 24 - Bent, 23 - Tevez, 22 - Lampard, 18 - Torres, Defoe, 15 - Fabregas, 14 - Adebayor, 13 - Agbonlahor, Saha.

Now looking at 2011/12 there are a lot of people who hit the high teens such as our boy wonder, Holt, Dempsey, Adebayor, Yakubu, however the season after Yakubu moved to China and the other 3 managed 20 between them in 87 games. Granted these 4 are a lot older than Christian, but I suspect he will find it tough to score as many next year. In fact going through the four years which has to be said is a small sample, but no player in the top ten goals scorers in any of these years has come out and scored more the following year, except from Van Persie where he scored 18 in 2010/11 & 30 in 2011/12.

* Suarez (11) and Bale (9) only managed 20 goals between them in 2011/12.

That's definitely wrong on 1 count and in all likelyhood wrong on 2 counts. Genk valued him at £7m. Not Villa. We agreed to pay their asking price. As Spurs are finding out now, it's the owner of the player who sets the price.

And the £40k is pure blogosphere speculation which I find difficult to believe frankly.

I'm beginning to think Belgian Guy has been tapped up and wants to hand in a transfer request to support a better team.

Play nice. He's already told us he's a Villa man now - he's just loyal to Benteke as well. Shame Benteke himself doesn't display the same characteristics.

Well last season it was a massive pay rise for him, such that he was happy to sign a 4 year contract.

I know you feel protective over him, but realistically putting in a transfer request isn't the action of a guy who wants to negotiate a better deal with Aston Villa. Benteke has had his head turned by his pals and the bright lights of London, that's fine but that doesn't mean Aston Villa should just let him go for the first derisory offer that is made (particularly as no offer seems to have been made as yet).

Benteke and his agent are clearly buffoons, they have shot their bolt far to early on this one, i hope this is not indicative of people from your country (in both shooting of bolts and intelligence levels).

I said this weeks ago. You can't on one hand claim to value a player at say 25m and then only offer them 40k a week. What 25m pound player earns 40k a week ?

You can't have it both ways, he's either a 25m player and paid like one or he's not.

Having said that, this isn't about what we can or have offered him at all. He wants to move to London. That much is clear

It's the way he's gone about it. If he didn't like whatever we offered him in the improved contract, he didn't have to throw his toys out the pram.

SHAME ON YOU CHRISTIAN BENTEKE. HE HAS TAKEN THIS CLUB FOR A RIDE AND I DON'T LIKE IT.

SHAME ON YOU.
