Sunderland

Grabban comes across as a right "back to front". The comments he made when playing for us about just having to score against his old club, then cupping his ear towards the Sunderland fans showed a distinct lack of class.

Oh and whats that excuse for facial hair all about?

Bain was chief executive of Rangers when they went tits up too.

Not sure he can be fully blamed for the basket case that was Rangers; when you get your tax avoidance scheme set up by a part time solicitor/porn actor you are asking for trouble.

Anyway its a great documentary, but the caveat is that all of these things are edited, so somethings are not quite as they appear

Absolutely with the editing thing. Obligatory Charlie Brooker segment:

Well worth five minutes if you've never seen it before.

Totally off topic, but everytime Reality TV, specifically reality tv with prizes, comes up in conversation I always say that there is bound to be some sort of scandal or legal issue around it given the exact stuff that Brooker clip outlines.

There are massive prizes knocking around for these gameshows (wasn't Big Brother £100k at one point?) and the editors/producers could basically make anyone they want win the show. Literally anyone.

I think it's only a matter of time before something happens there.

I agree here.

I'd be surprised, any production company worth their salt would have all that stuff tied up legally before the cameras begin rolling. If you want to go on the show you agree to the terms and conditions dictated by the show and that involves signing a lot of waivers.

Impressive support to be fair.

Sunderland fans turned out in force at Blackpool as they turned Bloomfield Road red and white on New Year's Day.

Almost 8,000 away supporters made the journey to the North West

I am just watching the Sunderland Till i Die series, quite insightful tbh.

Would be interesting to see a Villa version, but to be brutally honest i dont think i would want to see one! :P

One thing it does show is the impact of relegation, the struggles of rebuilding and the impact it has on the players etc.

Very interesting, if painful show to watch, some of the fans, oh my....

It is, but where were they last season? It’s alright following your club when they are doing well and winning games. Last season they deserted their club in their thousands. The only reason they averaged 40k in prem was because of the thousands of free tickets they distributed out. They are a good bunch, but not as loyal as they make out. Leeds have much better away support, and are far more loyal on the road. A few clubs in their position of doing well  would take similar numbers to Blackpool for a NYD piss up.

I also viewed as being more of a New Year outing for their fans rather than what the game mattered the day after.

Good post otherwise Ruge.

Loads would have had NYE there too. Great fixture for NYD , which is one of the biggest drinking days on the calendar. Two of their closest away games last season at Hull and Leeds failed to sell out by a few hundred, and they had a few other low followings away from home. They were down to 20k for some home games, although the club gave out bigger attendance figures  than were actually there. As I said they are a good bunch, but far from the greatest fans in football they make out to be. Our support has been far more consistent since being relegated.

We took 20k to Notts County for a midweek game when we were last in the third division. 10k to Bristol Rovers for another midweek fixture. Around 10k went to Brighton , and we took massive followings to a lot of other places back then. We pulled in over 40k at home numerous times too, with 48k being our highest league crowd in the third division. We also had 60k for a cup game v United whilst in the third division. We did have massive fluctuations in the third division mind.

Couldn't sleep last night so I decided to watch a few episodes of this show. I ended up watching them all and went to sleep around 7 this morning. A very good show, very interesting, and horrifying. Poor fans. In the beginning Bain looked like he could be a good CEO but the longer it went on, the worse he got. Especially during the transfer windows. Trying to get rid of a playuer on deadline day? And when on the subject I felt that Rodwell was both a clearing in the woods and did the right thing, which probably means he did the right thing. But I really wondered what happened to him. From what I saw when he was at everton he was a rather talented guy. He was mature in his game and looked like he could have a good career. Is he still in sunderland?

Felt for Coleman in the end and couldn't really understand why they didn't keep on with him. With new owners he could've done some good things, I think. He came across as a much more professional manager than Grayson.

He's moved onto Blackburn after Sunderland cancelled his contract at the end of the season. Has made 10 appearances this season.

Hm, now you mention it, didn't they say in the last episode that they cancelled his contract? Best for both parts. Now it's up to him to get his career back on track. Though, played 10 times for blackburn doesn't really sound like someone getting his career back on track...

Think he's continuing to struggle with injury problems.
