His monstrosity was without much reason that stands up today, whereas Hitler had a few ideas that at least could still be argued in favour of, aside from killing jews. Pol Pot's methods also give him the advantage. And it was so recent. I'm sure there were people around Genghis Khan time that might argue they killed more people in horrible ways, but the Cambodian thing was so recent.
