Richard Dunne

Its all if's and but's BUT if Dunne goes and no replacement is signed then it is absolute madness to go into a season with 3 specialist centre backs, especially given the inexperience of two of them (and even the 4th if we include Herd). I'm always of the opinion that in a full squad you need two of everything plus one extra keeper and one extra centre back. Centre back in my opinion is THE most injury prone position on the pitch.

I think Lerner could literally stand up in the directors area, unzip his trousers, piss on the fans below and some would give him a thumbs up and say thanks.

And I think that you literally hope that we won't sign any more players so you can get more people on your band wagon to get Lerner out of here. After all he might've pissed off your hero. And I also literally think that we could sign both Messi and Ronaldo and you'd still claim that Lerner is shite.

Yes the last two years have been superb and I'm only annoyed because he annoyed MON.

Wish he would have done that at West Ham on Saturday, it was roasting in the away end. Would have been very gracious.

No, the only one who claims that people think that is you. And you complain endlessly. People try to look positive at things and live in hope, and it's very much like you don't want them to do that. You may laugh all you want, it's still true.

I would imagine billion dollar urine is probably quite refreshing.

could he need to ship out Dunne in order to free up the wages for Defoe?

You see this is the problem with us all being on the outside. Most people on here are quite happy to see Dunne going; granted as long as there's some kind of reinforcement in that area. So the manager gets kudos to some extent for selling Dunne. But some (not you btw) will seize the opportunity to take a potential negative and twist it into "oh he was freeing up the wages for someone new". It all depends what stance you've adopted. Everything gets 'analysed'; well I say analysed but in reality it's complete speculation because we're working from a position of total ignorace when it comes to how PL is being allowed to re-shape his squad.

My stance that I wanted rid of Collins or Dunne, if he gets rid of both, along with Hutton and Warnock, the man is a mother **** genius.

Whoever we had got playing in defence, surely they can't be as bad as them from last season.

When I saw the the four of them in Malmasion the day we lost at home to the Baggies, getting hammered, Dunne and Collins smoking, I realised that they couldn't give a flying **** about the Villa.

Agreed.

He might just think Dunne is shit and we're better off without him.

But despite us being on the outside I think it's clear to most that there is pressure on the wage bill, I think it's therefore fair to speculate that the sale of Dunne could be to free up a rather large chunk of the wage bill for other areas, be it defence, midfield or another striker.

Personally I'd see a Defoe for Dunne exchange as a positive despite being worried about the cover in defence

Thought he was still injured??

He is but I assume Stoke will wait until deadline day and then give him an medical and sign him either based on doctors advice and/or a clause saying that the transfer fee won't be paid until he recovers.

He might just think Dunne is shit and we're better off without him.

Hey! That's what I think!

Given our transfer window so far do you really think its a ridiculous thought to suggest Dunne is being moved to allow a player in a different position to be signed?

And once again if it's not positive or we don't know the whole situation we shouldn't speculate? VT will go down hill fast if people only posted about things we know 100% about.

Selling Dunne, like selling any player, will free up wages. That's obvious. But the motivation behind the sale might have been; as you say; because Lambert simply sees us better off without him around. It goes back to my point about whichever stance people have decided to take on our transfer dealings. I'd say there'll be some cognitive dissonance on this one. You'll have people who are delighted Dunne is gone but who also want to criticise the deal as being one of lowering wages. My heart goes out to them at this time of confusion and dilemma.

Big John,

I think there's a difference between stating as I did that the wage bill needs to be jigged around, and stating that the club's a bag of shit and Lerner hasn't got a clue etc etc (as some have on other threads) because the wage bill needs to be jigged about. whilst being a valid opinion, not one I agree with, it adds little to the debate and is often argued to the extreme ignoring all reasonable counter points.

There have been a few people jumping onto this thread claiming Lambo hasn't got a clue etc because we'd be left with Vlaar and some kids. They have a point in that we'd be lacking cover but again the point is taken to the extreme.

If you put a poll on here asking who you'd rather have in the squad Dunne or Defoe I bet I could guess which way it would swing. Lambert clearly has some tough decisions to make, some will have negative implications some will have positive, but that's the nature of his job.
