Thought it was interesting on other thread someone was dismissing the Ugarte signing given all the endless CMs Chelsea have.

They actually don't have that many who'll be still there on September 1st imo:

Kovacic- Man. City want him as Gundogan replacement and 1 year left on his deal so looks pretty straightforward.

Gallagher- Not technically good enough but likes of Palace and West Ham (post Rice) will be all over him and will be a big boost to their FFP given he's homegrown.

Loftus-Cheek- The eternal youngster who is 27. Never kicked on with injuries and frequent change of managers and some random interest from AC Milan. I guess they could keep him as a back up to January.

Kante- Endless injuries last two seasons and into his 30s. Chelsea still want to keep him but no contract extension signed as yet.

Carney.....lol. Think he needs a Bundesliga loan unless Poch fancies a Dele type impact from him.

Mount- Would surely look better than Poch but Man. United seriously want him and he dosen't feel valued enough by Chelsea's contract offer so as it stands he's going.

Leaves them with Enzo Fernandez so Ugarte would be a smart pickup as the Kamara-Luiz type pivot infront of back 4.

Poch's main job is to try to make some sense of Havertz, Sterling, Madueke, Pulisic, Mudryk, Lukaku, Broja and anyone else they sign all as legitimate front 3 forward options.

He didn’t exactly dismiss the rumour when questioned at the F1 today

Only one of Chelsea's last nineteen managers has done more than two years with them and that was only by eleven days.

Mourinho did nearly 2 and a half seasons in his last term

Offered Ugarte an eight year contract, apparently.

Has the rest of the league missed a trick with this eight year contract strategy for players? Or is Boehly a financial lunatic?

They can sign players on whatever contract they like but the FFP accounting period is limited to 5 years now.

Why they would offer a longer contract than that is not certain. Perhaps they can still convince players to take a lower salary for a longer period and hope to sell them on mid-contract, plus less chance of the transfer fee diminishing towards the end of that contract.

But for FFP purposes it's "banned" yes.

They can only amortise the contract over 5 years, regardless of the length of contract, so this year they'd make a £38M profit on the two deals. For the next 4 years, they'd make a £12m loss per year.

But the overall point is a good one, the only hope they've got of staving off FFP meltdown (not to mention squad disharmony) is by selling the likes of Mount and Gallagher.  The rest of the Premier League should realise this, and leave all their players exactly where they are.

Burnley want to buy Ian Maatsen who helped them in the Championship. Has played one senior game for Chelsea and they want 20 million for him.

Brighton had a 30m bid rejected for Levi Colwill.

Hilarious, them giving him a PL season basically set that price. Seems a mugs game to loan players from the same division unless you're agreeing an option to buy in advance

He's a hugely promising 21-year-old who was one of the best players in the division last season. How much cheaper do you think he should be?

Could probably flip Carney for 50 million in that case

I don't doubt it

All those saying we've ripped them off etc etc that's not how football economics works, they'll sell him at a decent profit in a couple of years

More money being spent

€20m and a long term contract for a 16 year old who won’t join for 2 years is a new level of “games gone”
