He will leave at the end of season... Another 30k saved on wages/week.

That is bizarre. Why not sell Collins or Dunne and save 30-50k a week on one of them, and save the amortization of 1.25 mill and maybe even get some extra cash?

Poor management.

Isn't he out of contract this summer?

Yes, and that says it all about the mismanagement of this club.

I was very happy when they failed in getting rid of him last summer and more happy when they failed again this January window.

But I am not happy that he will leave this summer and Collins and Dunne probably will stay.

A great player who the club should be doing everything they can to hold on to him..

Yet they've spent most of the last 12 months trying to get rid of him....

and let two clowns like Dunne and Collins remain.

Says it all

Rangers were offering him 25k a week

He decided he didn't want to take a 17k a week pay cut

So he's taking his chances on a Bosman

Will probably end up being snapped up by a lower end PL team who survive relegation ie QPR or one of the promoted teams ie. West Ham

That's not actually true though is it, you read it in a newspaper. There is someone on VT who does actually know Carlos and his version is entirely different, especially the maths bit.

Not sure why people are suggesting Sunderland. O'Neill bought him but never played him in his preferred position.

Yes he did.

was rarely and when he played there was because of Laursen injury and then Collins injury

CARLOS Cuellar revealed he has not received a new contract offer from Aston Villa – but will continue to wait for one before talking to other clubs.

Cuellar’s current deal expires at the end of the season and he would love to extend his stay after forcing his way into Alex McLeish’s first XI.

The Spanish central defender has opened negotiations with Villa about a new contract and is hoping the claret and blues return with an offer soon.

Several clubs have enquired with Cuellar’s representatives about the possibility of taking the player on a free Bosman deal in the summer.

But even though he has been free to talk to other clubs since January, Cuellar insists he would rather give Villa first refusal on his signature.

“No, there is no offer yet,” said Cuellar.

“At the moment I am focused to get points and to finish the league in the highest position possible and wait to see what will happen with me.

“I am relaxed about it. I’m fine.

“If they want me to stay here it will be easy. If not, if my contract is finished, I will have to say ‘thank-you, goodbye, it was a pleasure to be here, I am grateful for the last four years’.

“It’s football, it sometimes happens, it’s alright.”

Cuellar has become a fans’ favourite despite being in and out of the team since signing from Rangers for £7.8 million in August 2008.

And the popular 30-year-old is happy to bide his time waiting for Villa’s decision rather than starting to look for a move to a new club.

“I have always thought this way, I am happy here and I would like to stay,” said Cuellar.

“But sometimes the plans of the club or even the situation is different.

“You have to wait to see what will happen.

“Now, because I’m in my last year, from January you can speak with the other teams, even to sign if I wanted.

“Always I want to give the first opportunity to Villa. If I’m not in the manager’s plans, I will start to talk.

“There is interest from other clubs but I say ‘no’. I don’t want to move now, I want to stay and be happy playing. I want to fight to stay here.”

Cuellar has been in fine form since forcing his way into the team, first at left-back and then replacing injured Richard Dunne at centre-half.

And he insists being in limbo about his future will not affect his perfomances on the field as he strives to help them to Premier League safety.

Asked whether he is confident of winning a new deal, he replied: “I don’t know.

“To be honest I don’t want to think about that because now I’m focussed just trying to help the team and play.

“I’m not thinking about the contract to be honest. I wanted to sign before now but it will be hard if they don’t want me.

“I try to save the club and finish as high as possible and after that we will see what happens.”

Cuellar would love assurances he is wanted at Villa and would have the chance of playing regular first-team football for the club.

“Everybody wants that but now, at this moment, they can’t give me that security.”

still not offered a contract

No surprise the defence has been better with his inclusion!!!

It's a no brainer for me - sign him up and sell Collins/Dunne for whatever we can get for him. Bit of income and reduction of wages, rather than lose a player for nothing and reduce the wages.

He comes across as a real gent and top professional!!!
