Yea I wouldn't call them pathetic, they're just very frustrated at losing a great player, a great player who actually loved playing for us. It's really sad, but I understand his decision.

I felt sick seeing him in a Man City shirt. But I like to think on VT that we're a bit more logical and sensible and we can cut through that emotion to see the reason behind people's decisions. There's a difference between being emotional and angry and actually booing a player. it just seems bizarre to me after how sensational Grealish was for us and how he's left, that people would feel the need to boo him. If Grealish gets booed then there's no hope for anyone. People are entitled to do it, but I'm entitled to say I think it's pathetic When it comes to the Villa, I have absolutely no need or desire to cut through the emotion. The Villa is nothing but emotion. You are entitled to do so, but I point you to my previous analogy about «understanding» the pantomime villain. It just doesn’t seem very fun. I don't think there was anything particularly unusual about this transfer other than Grealish being thick enough, even by footballer standards, to publicly acknowledge it. Or a 70m release clause. He could have not signed a new contract at all and he'd be going for far less. Signing that contract has probably made us 20-30m. Why shouldn't the club be threatened with Legal action if they were refusing to accept a bid that met a contractual release clause?! I agree that we'd be far better with grealish and we'd have a chance of the top 6. But he's been offered essentially a premier league title, probably a cup and very possibly a champions league win. Not in 5 or 10 years IF everything goes absolutely perfectly for us. He's been offered it now. At the best club in Europe. Playing with some of the best players in Europe. For the best manager. Playing alongside his idol. Even if everything goes amazingly for Villa, we wouldn't be able to offer him what he's being offered now for 10 years. And the chances of even that are minute. It's not like he's **** us off for 50m to go to a club who have scraped into the champions league like Spurs or Leicester Harry Kane probably wishes he had. Popular Post TRO
Jack groomed himself for this day and we was the conduit he used....nothing wrong with that as long as its not hidden under the veil of "a life time fan", "I love this club", "its all I ever wanted"......That has been well and truly trumped by a Catalan coach and a bag of Oil Money. Don't get me wrong, he was great for us, but he knew deep down where all this was going to end....This was not by chance, it's by design. I think Man City have been kept well in the loop of Jacks intentions, and I think the release clause was a softner for us to get well paid.....Aston Villa was on a sticky wicket with this one, they did all they could. I would think, Dean Smith and Christian Purslow, had a difficult time with all this, over a period of time...Jack knew he was going and engineered the move, since the Spurs interest...since then it was all a charade.....and I think thats what hurts most. I felt slightly uncomfortable listening to Jacks presser at Man CIty....Whether is was meant or not his reference to Pep's coaching skills and saying in 2 days i have seen things from him, i would not have thought of, kinda threw Dean under the bus. I have no animosity towards Jack, he's probably done ,what many of us would, but his harping on about being a villa fan, seems a tad disingenuous, to me.....He wants his cake and eat it. I would guess, he hasn't give us a second thought. Footballers have a career to manage, I understand that, but then don't try to understand the emotion we feel as fans.....because we are invested in that, they arn't. The best way they can endear themselves to us, is to play well as often as possible......don't try to be one of us, because your not.....at least we can then treat you all for what you are......Footballers. There wasn't a clause in his old one, he had 4 years left, and we didn't want or need to sell. He'd have probably had to hand in a transfer request

If you're booing the pantomime villain then fine, but I think a lot of people aren't viewing it as theatre when they boo. They genuinely dislike someone for having done something that's actually quite understandable. Add to that that the person playing a pantomime villain is an actor playing a role, whereas footballers aren't actors. You're booing a real person for your entertainment. Which is fine if the player is deliberately playing the role (e.g. Troy Deeney) but if not, why do it? Especially when you'll be doing it alongside people who genuinely hate him. I’m sorry, but footballers are entertainers. Their frankly embarrassing wealth comes from the money we pay to be entertained by them, and the only return we get for that money is emotional. I do not feel the slightest bit sorry for footballers in Jack’s place being booed for their decisions. It’s a decision they’ve made and a situation they can handle. They should, frankly, accept that being booed and even genuinely disliked by opposition fans is part of the entertainment business they make their money in. If you take that out of football, it becomes very sterile very fast. Edited August 10, 2021 by El Zen 1
PaulC
Footballers are overpaid and live in this surreal world which is now so far removed from the real one that I dont give a toss about them or care about their opinions on poverty, politics or anything. They are just footballers to me and they perform well on the pitch thats all that matters.

Popular Post KentVillan
I'm really excited to see how Smith and the players perform next season without everything going through Jack, and without Jack's injuries being the only thing we worry about. My take is that Jack just enjoys playing football, and especially enjoys playing football with really elite players. He always sounded most convincing in interviews when he was talking about his love of players like KDB and so on, and least convincing when he rolled out the old "obviously as a Villa fan obviously obviously bla bla it means more to me bla bla obviously". We don't have a good enough squad to give Jack what he wants. I don't think it's the money (he'd be ludicrously rich either way)... I think he just literally wants to play football at an elite level with elite teammates, and see what he's capable of. He's probably looked at Harry Kane's situation, and thought, **** that. Do I wish he hadn't said "my club my city" and would just stfu with the weird interviews (crying like Messi lol)? Yes, obviously. It's all a bit unconvincing, feels like he's getting a lot of PR advice, but doesn't know how to act on it, so just comes across as dishonest. Do I give a shit anymore? No, not really. He's left us in pretty good shape, and hasn't embarrassed the club with his actions. We can now compete within FFP rules, we have a more balanced squad, and we've cashed in on a player who was turning into an annual circus attraction. I'll miss watching him play for Villa, but we move on. 10
