The show didn't get great reviews overall though. He's also popped up in a couple of episodes of Modern Family. Pilkington....again, only so much can be enjoyed from watching a whinging manc do stuff he doesn't want to. Gervais ? I do like him. The Office and Extras in particular were excellent. Not keen on his stand up shows though. After Life series one was great but he carried on the self pity mood throughout series two and i got bored with it. Never seen Derek...might give it a go. Pilkington got old a while ago imo. Once it became a bit scripted and over the top his gimmick didn’t work for me anymore. Back in the day when it was just spontaneous idiocy on the radio it’s was **** hilarious.
useless
Watched The Singing Detective, I think it's probably the best UK television dramas that I've seen, can't imagine anything like it being made today, found an article that I didn't read but was talking about how it didn't really influence UK television but was a big influence on Twin Peaks (Mark Frost admitted as much and Davidy Lynch was going to make a film with Potter at one point) and then consequently shows like Six Feet Under, Sopranos, and Mad Men, I think it's definitely worth watching if you like some of the more the surreal aspects of those, or probably worth watching even if you don't like those shows, as it's it's own thing and only six episodes.

I liked Hello Ladies too, it was decent. Sick Of It with Pilkington wasn’t bad either. Neither were amazing, but both were watchable. I’m in a minority with Gervais in that I think his more recent work is his best. I loved The Office, Extras and life’s Too Short, but Derek and Afterlife are on another level for me. Also, Humanity is one of my favourite stand up shows ever, I thought it was brilliant from start to finish and easily his best stand-up by a country mile. His films are ok, nowhere near his TV shows though.

Good call. One of my favourite TV dramas ever, probably Dennis Potter's finest moment. And Joanne Whalley... 2

Its not even close to stuff like the office and extras though. And I’ve always been cold on his standup. It’s not that funny I don’t think
mjmooney Posted May 3, 2020 VT Supporter Share Posted May 3, 2020 Well, maybe I got my hopes up too high for the end (or was it?) of Homeland. Wasn't helped by the C4 announcer suggesting "the final explosive episode". That was it? Really? Best thing about it was the surprise bit of live Kamasi Washington. Think I was just too young to have got it when it was first aired but I’ve had the dvd on the shelf for about five years. Seeing as I’ve all but completed Netflix, I might start it this week. useless
It starts off slowly but comes together as it goes along. I enjoyed it.
LakotaDakota
In a bit of a break from the usual teen angst stuff I seem to mostly watch lately I am enjoying upload on Amazon. It is something different than most of the other stuff around at the moment. Death/comedy/drama with a dead like me/pushing daisies vibe. Won't take you long to decide if you like it or not. *Now finished upload, most enjoyable & would quite like more of this. Larry David is effortlessly funny. It's one of those programmes I only got to watch on aeroplanes until recently and I'm up to series 3 now I've got Sky. It's already one of my favourites. Jeff is especially hilarious. Started watching Gangs Of London, it's good but some of the violence is ridiculous. Joe Cole's accent really annoys me in it too, especially as I think he is from London. Also started watching the TV version of the Bone Collector which is easy viewing. Missing Denzel from the film version though.

Stevo985 Posted May 5, 2020 VT Supporter Share Posted May 5, 2020 I'm 6 episodes in to Gangs of London and I'm loving it. It is incredibly violent, which isn't always a good thing. The episode I saw last night (6) made me feel physically sick. Also the 5th episode was pretty pointless. They didn't need that episode at all. They needed the one liner right at the end Spoiler The dad said something along the lines of why did you have to pick him, I couldnt remember, or least didn't understand until that point (might not still fully understand it now...) it was the Danes who hired the gypsy kid But largely agree, the only other thing it really showed was the professionalism of the Danes and almost gorno / gun porn

We needed to know Spoiler what happened to the gypsy kid and the dad, and the Danish special forces or whatever they are had to be introduced. But it didn't need to be a whole episode. Plus it was the most over the top episode so far. I was especially annoyed because of the previous episode finishing on a cliffhanger. If this was back when you'd have to wait a whole week for the next episode I'd have been fuming
Bizzzle
Finished gangs of London and really enjoyed it although it was a bit over the top and far fetched at times. Hope there will be a second season. Just started watching Upload on Amazon prime which I'm really enjoying so far
