In terms of Villa and to start the debate... why should pensioners get any concession? Why should a 65 year old get much cheaper tickets than say a 60 year old or a 22 year old? A lot of pensioners are well-off and some are poor, similar to the rest of the adult population. Actually there are probably more pensioners with a higher disposable income than someone in their 20's. Isn't charging all adults (excluding students) the same price the fairest way? Hmm i have had a Season Ticket for many years now and this coming season is the first time i will qualify for OAP discount. The discount isn't that much and, having spent so much on STs over many years during dark times too, i am looking forward to the concession. Oh and don't generalise that all OAPs are well off.

Yeah, I'd agree with that. Cheaper prices for pensioners is probably an old fashioned thing, maybe to support the war generation? What other products and services can you buy cheaper as a pensioner. I'm guessing a reducing amount.

This doesn’t sit right with me at all. I don’t think our attending Villa Park over 65’s fan base (of any material amount) are well off imo, I don’t think we have that type of fan base like say some London teams. Yes I understand about the cost for families, younger adults but our pensioners I think should get concessions.
S-Platt Posted March 8 VT Supporter Share Posted March 8 The retirement age is 68 for blokes now I am amazed the club have kept it at 65! Probably be 70 by the time I retire.

The Fun Factory
I will grumble about the almost certain price hikes but will renew. It would be nice to feel valued rather than an opportunity to pass on costs whilst not improving off-pitch facilities unless you are willing to pay even more money to them. I know that sounds very old-fashioned and naive as the club long term wants more fans, who come less regularly, and are willing to pay far more for the experience than I would. It's not comparing to London clubs, it's more comparing disposable income of 22 year old Jack to 35 year old Dave to 62 year old Alan to 67 year old Kenneth. What makes Kenneth more special than Jack, Dave or Alan?

Davkaus
I don't think there's any justification for an OAP discount these days, but it's not like we're subsidising them. I'm absolutely certain if they do bin it off, it won't be reflected in anyone else's ticket prices

What makes Kenneth more special than Jack, Dave or Alan? I guess my experience of pensioners is having less money than those other ages I know in Birmingham. When I lived in Sydney I would agree with you because the older generation had a lot more disposal income but being back home in Birmingham and mixing back here I can’t agree that’s the same in Brum. I suppose I also grew up in a time that pensioners had served their time in the workplace and deserved some special concessions in retirement and while I’m only 47 that may just be a hangover from WW2 passing down the generations.

I guess it does depend on individual people's social circle. I know a lot of people in their 20's and 30's struggling but most pensioners i know seem to be pretty well off, they've paid off their mortgage, kids have left home, and they seem to just be out socialising and going on numerous holidays. They seem to be able to spend more than those trying to buy their first house or having kids. But we are both just seeing our individual social circle. I'm guessing overall its probably similar issues in all age categories.
villa89
For me it should be a loyalty discount. Have your season five years you get five percent off and that increases by one percent for every year you keep renewing. Promotes loyalty and rewards long term ticket buyers. Have a season ticket for 40 years, 40 percent off for you. Of course that system would require some kind of picture authentication. Otherwise it would be a resellers dream.
