nick76 Posted August 7, 2023 Posted August 7, 2023 Emery is used to fixture congestion I’m sure we’ll be fine. 1
MotoMkali Posted August 7, 2023 Posted August 7, 2023 This is why we imo need another winger otherwise we'll be relying on Coutinho and Traore staying fit for long periods of time. 1

I wasn't paying amazing attention, but my impression was that Villareal didn't do very well in the league when they were doing well in the cups. Hopefully we have a bigger squad to avoid those kinds of issues associated with 8 extra games. Edited August 7, 2023 by Rolta

I think we will do very well in all competitions this year and maybe we can even grab a bit of silverware at the end of it all. 1

Yeah i've wanted to go to Switzlerland for a while, never been, potentially a perfect opportunity. From what i've seen, the place literally looks like something out of a fantasy movie!
AvonVillain Posted August 7, 2023 Posted August 7, 2023 Bring it on. Also: bring the kids on. Love it.

It's what top teams get used to, so we will have to get used to it. How will UE and our squad cope? They will:

briny_ear Posted August 7, 2023 Posted August 7, 2023 This is what Emery does. However, I think everyone is aware that a European cup campaign can have an adverse impact on league performance. Look at West Ham last season.
MrBlack Posted August 7, 2023 Posted August 7, 2023 (edited) 3 games in 6 days at the end of Nov/start of December looks brutal. Not least because the last of the 3 is against Man City. I assume the reason that's not being played on the Wednesday is due to TV? Makes me think another signing and a couple more replacements/ improvements of players on the periphery would be ideal for the upcoming season. Expecting Watkins to play every single game is a non starter, and just swapping Diaby in isn't an option either because he'll be playing as second striker most other games. Archer or Duran going to get plenty of minutes unless we sign another striker. Edited August 7, 2023 by MrBlack Typos

Our fixtures haven't been adjusted for Europe yet, because we aren't actually in the group stages. Once they are then the league games will shift to Sunday and that City game will be moved to Wednesday. Don't think they can make us play Sun/Tue. 5 1

But i'm sure they'll change it to Wednesday once our European dates are also confirmed. Edited August 7, 2023 by ender4
NeilS Posted August 7, 2023 Posted August 7, 2023 I think the thing that stands us in better stead now more so than any other time under MON for a Euro campaign, is that we have become a more possesion based team over the last twelve months. We can control the pace of more matches than we ever did under previous managers, which results in having less chasing about after the ball to do, which will partly help towards managing the extra work load. Unai Emery has shown he is not afraid to rotate and use the younger players. I believe we have the best manager for us at the helm, and hopefully he in turn can get the best out of each of those players he has available during this campaign. We will have to get used to this workload as a club and a fanbase if we want to be succesful in the future. This is all part of the learning curve for the club. 1
Rodders Posted August 7, 2023 Posted August 7, 2023 we have the manager and we have a squad, with another one or two to come in.
