I just want to add, was at the game yesterday first time this year due to being ill and hospitalised with pneumonia. 

Everyone around me Holte end upper K5 row 127 wondered where I had been and welcomed me back......indicative of the great fans we have as a club, it felt like my second home.

Totally different game from the turgid rubbish served up by the previous fraud of a manager. This new man in charge knows his stuff. He is way above the best manager we have had for decades in my view. Keep him and Villa will be an even bigger club than we are now and a team competing with the best.

Oh and I thought the crowd were great....

Yesterday was almost the perfect match day experience for me.

I bought a ticket on a whim on Thursday after not having been since 2016 and it was one of the last three available!

Surely a good sign, further endorsed when I discovered I was sitting a few rows back exactly on the half way line.

After recent results, there was a bit of a party feel around the ground before kickoff, everyone was really relaxed and enjoying the sunshine

What followed was a first half where the team lacked urgency and precision, in keeping with the beach weather, so the party vibe did subside somewhat.

We clearly weren't on it and there was a niggling sense that Forest might nick a goal to punish our profligacy, but we needn't have worried.

There is so much to like about this new Villa team, not least how well we adapt to challenges, the improvement in most players, our real threat when we attack and the fact we are now much more comfortable on the ball.

All such big improvements and a delight to behold, so why was it only 'almost perfect'? Well, Unai is absolutely right, we do have to improve.

The results he is getting out of these players are nothing short of extraordinary and the players themselves deserve great credit for rising to the challenges in front of them, but we are riding our luck a little and we aren't yet fulfilling our potential.

The feeling among many before the game was that we should be smashing Forest and in terms of what they showed yesterday, we absolutely should be. They were dire.

But we aren't there, yet. Everyone wants that statement performance where we grind the opponent into the ground and it will come, but we haven't quite fully clicked, yet.

Some of our play is sparkling at times, the last few minutes yesterday were lovely (what we had been hoping for from the start), but we are going to have to be patient before we see that.

And when I say 'we' have to be patient, I do mean us as fans because the players are showing such admirable calm and poise in possession. That for me is the biggest step forward we have taken under Unai.

Am I being picky? Yes I am, but so is Unai. He wants more and it IS going to come, you can just tell. Whether it is this season or next with the new additions, it doesn't really matter too much because we are on our way, finally.

So, not quite perfect, not smashing teams, but it's coming. We are back.

It was a bit low key and lacking in urgency today but I think what we saw is what Emery has been drumming into the players since he came - control the game, keep the ball at the back to force them out of their shape, then try to exploit the gaps created.   It led to a functional, and ultimately comfortable, win with Forest rarely threatening.  It wasn't the most exciting watch but tactically I found it fascinating to watch our players implementing Emery's tactics pretty effectively.  It augurs well for when Emery gets more of his kind of player in.  Young MOTM for me, played very well  defending and attacking.  Ref gave some strange decisions and perhaps should have booked Shelvey for his first foul, as failing to do so seemed to encourage a few further "robust" challenges that could have led to injuries..

Sorry but just have to revisit this quickly, as i've even received messages from people regarding it ffs ( It's really not that dramatic or deep )

How people can always manage to laser target or extract negative from overtly positive is beyond me.

1. When we beat Leicester | The Foxes

- My connotation was reversing the pisstaking and an ode to conquering the foxes: " Evening Leicester, I am THE FOX " , double entendre, beat the Foxes ( Wise as a fox.. the wisest fox.. etc )

2. When we beat Nottingham Forest 

- Connotation also obvious, cheesy photo in the rainforest, " I am Tarzan.. King of the Jungle, conqueror of the Forest etc " .

Remind me never to invite some of you for a beer or any sort of comedy show, as lord knows who i may unintentionally offend, even with good intentions.

Possibly cultural differences here across the board.

I already addressed it in on the day, in the thread and said i'd leave it from now, as obviously a chunk of the demographic on the board ain't for it.

I believe yesterday's attendance of 42,076 is our highest crowd v Forest at Villa Park since the 77/78 season when 44,215 watched us lose 1-0 to the side that then won the league.
