People need to manage their expectations with who we get in. Anyone of clear first team quality is basically unavailable now as most teams are sorted. So if we end up getting an uninspiring backup, the shouts of "We have no ambition, the owners have given up" need to shut up in this case.

Unless we pay £85m plus for someone, which we can't afford, it won't be a headline signing.

Maybe a loan from a team with better depth, such as arsenal for example.

Yep season has started, nobody is selling us a starting centre back unless for an eye watering fee

When we signed Carlos we weren't short of numbers in central defence, that wasn't the reason he was signed, he was brought in as a starter to improve the first team, now he's injured we're still not short of numbers as we have Mings, Konsa, Chambers, Hause, Feeney, and Bogarde, so if we decide to replace him it won't be about just adding an option, it will be for the same reasons that we brought him in the first place, that is to improve the first team.

In other words I don't think it really makes much sense for us to sign someone like Rob Holding, or some of the other names being mentioned, a replacement for Carlos would have to be someone good enough to do the job that we signed Carlos for.

We will only sign a player if the player fits the role in the team Carlos was to play. The ball playing CB. If that type of player is not available we will likely loan someone in as cover or keep Hause around

God we've made a hash of this window just like the last one. Yes we are unlucky to lose Carlos for 6 months, we always seem to get bad luck, but we were naïve to think Carlos and Kamara were enough to make progress this season.

Now Carlos is injured we'll spend the rest of this window struggling to find his replacement and putting all our efforts into that, and once again leave areas that should have been fixed weeks ago untouched.

Same old mistakes season after season after season after season. We're genuinely like a lesser version of Man United in so many ways.

Exactly. Which is why I think Holding who is out of favour ticks all the boxes for the situation we are in. He is better than Konsa and Chambers.

Whether Arsenal would be open to letting him leave or want him as 4th choice is another question.

A lot of leagues are struggling financially - especially in France. There’s still good deals to be had.

This is not how it works. Every window the same silly comment. As if the club aren't capable of making more than one phonecall at a time, but you know that surely.

Does that count for all positions? Because those of us who have said we haven’t done enough business keep getting slammed down being told the transfer window isn’t shut yet and we are being impatient.

Now we can’t get a replacement (aside from the other positions needed) for our injured CB because teams will be now settled.

Not aimed at you but it feels there is always an excuse.

Saw on Twitter we are looking at Jason Denayer the Belgium CB on a free. Might be a load of rubbish but might be a decent option

If he’s on a free he’ll require insane wages (like Kamara is likely on). That’ll massively alter the long term strategy the club have in place. I think a loan is more likely with insurance money from Carlos covering the extra wages. Means they can go ahead and strengthen midfield and/or striker as they had already planned.

Not so much as we have no doubt been working on other positions for a while so we are in a queue for those players so to speak..this injury is out of the blue and takes a ensured first team starter out for a year. Not much blame came be placed on villa for this specific one.

I dont think his wages will be an issue. Its mid August and he doesnt have a club which means he has already missed out on pre season and hasnt got many offers

Rumour is Inter turned him down because he wants 60k a week which is probably the average wage at Villa now

Our moves in this window have been shameful compared to other clubs. We've probably had no better a window than f***ing Bournemouth!
