Tomaszk
Wouldn't be surprised if something like a Doug contract is being held back in case we lose to Everton. It's all spin these days. 3 hours ago, KevinRichardsonsMoustache said: Stevie got an easy ride. All managers get an easy ride. The idea that journalists will ask questions of any sort of public (in this case fan) concern is a thing of the past. In the main, there are two types of sports journo/presenter: 1. The PR Journo. Let's face it: there's a revolving door between what is now considered journalism and PR writing. Our Chief Operating Officer was once head of Press and PR at ITV (he's easily the most high profile and capable [on paper] out of all of them). Our Communications Director is a former journalist. Our Senior Comms Officer is a former journo (and Swindon Town fan, interestingly). Our current comms officers are mostly graduates from really sh*tty journalism programmes. They're the same people. Any of the hacks in the regional press would take a job at Villa. 2. On the other side of it are the older local radio sports presenters. These guys are more concerned with saying something that'll be considered funny or topical by their audiences. Basically, pretending to be pals with the stars so they keep their jobs. In both cases, these people aren't there to represent fans or fans' concerns, they're there to make their own careers. Press conferences are networking events for them at best, click bait to drive ads at worst. Either way: they need access to perpetuate the husks of their careers while they can go around and claim to be journalists breaking important stories. There's no money in asking difficult questions in a football context. Superb post on the rough outline of how it all works. Villa are actually quite poor at using the media to their advantage though. Purslow having Phil McNulty's phone number is almost the only an active mouthpiece. Edited August 12, 2022 by Tomaszk

We need a top class no.8 critically. next on the list is a striker, but tbh that would be a nice to have, not critical. We 100% need a no.8 that can help take our midfield to the next level (Kamara/new no.8/whoever). Rodrigo De Paul

Traore is easily good enough to be forth choice. We have no specialist back up for Cash other than Guilbert. I’d argue if you sign an 8 you can sell McGinn without signing a second 8. I don’t see the point in signing a striker when there isn’t any really good opportunities for one in the market and CRUCIALLY we haven’t sorted out a supply to the current strikers. I was on board with replacing Mings with Botman early in the window but now he has gone to Newcastle and we have signed Carlos I don’t see it happening. VillaChris
Just noticed En-nesyri on the bench for Sevilla in their season opener. Wonder if he's come on our radar at all given we've signed Diego and also Augustinsson from them so obviously scouted them plenty last season. He didn't have a great scoring season last year but hit 18 in 38 games in 20/21 and just turned 25 so feels the type we should be looking at if we can shift one of the senior strikers in next three weeks. Luiz barely makes the starting XI and him leaving wouldn't greatly bother me! His contract status is largely inconsequential to my positivity/negativity towards Villa's future. I want us to upset the top 4, or maybe we should just tell the league not to. Schedule games against them and just give them the points at the start of the season
