I still think English grounds always seem a lot louder than those in Europe. Yes it might not be bright colours and well orchestrated singing. But boy do we make one hell of a noise even if it is mainly made up of drunk men shouting **** come on!

It’s even more prominent in European games as well as Internationals.

That is true. I think everyone in Europe respect the roar of the English crowd.

It's just a shame there is less and less of it.

I blame the commercialisation of the game and the corporate world we live in. We have the best players in the world, but instead of going all out the fans have to return to their account manager/financial analyst roles the next day.

It creates a different sort of vibe and a different fan profile.

Careful, they're already floating the idea of extending half time to 25/30 minutes to accommodate this sort of thing.

Oh no, really? Idiots aren’t they.

The only advantage of that for me is that I might be able to get chips at halftime unlike at the moment because of the queue’s.

based on what i've experienced from european games, internationals and then trips to la liga and bundesliga games english football has far more correlation to what is happening on the pitch, far more ooohs and aaaahs, clapping good play and like you say the roar, going back through this thread you'll see a lot of comments about VP being flat being countered with comments of so was the football and its a chicken and egg thing, watching england under roy was the flattest game i've ever experienced, it was horrible

i've been to bundesliga games where it been loud, its been constant and its been orchestrated in a really cool way and its incredible in its own way...but its not a reflection of the game, the game is seemingly irrelevant to the crowd noise

the cliche about silencing the crowd, that to me is an english thing, means you can have good crowds and bad crowds

Atmosphere was dreadful for the first 40 mins. Holte End was really really quiet. Thank god for the disallowed goal, it galvanised everyone.

I'm not sure what you're comparing it to. For a standard premier league game, so not for a proper local derby or important match, has there ever been consistent singing throughout the 90 minutes? Like I mean historically, was there a period of years where we used to sing consistently throughout the match, irrespective of occasion and opposition. Because I dont remember it.

What I would change would be the unnecessary noise blasted pre kick off, and equally the songs played after a win. Just silence please, and the crowd. They're the two best occasions for song interactions with the players.

Used to love that early 2000s when the holte end would go through the repertoire of player songs before the game. With Alpay charging towards the Holte End like the nutter he was.

Absolutely spot on, particularly re before the game.  I've been all round the ground this season so far -  in the North Stand Upper you could not hear a thing as the players took the pitch and up until kick off other than the blaring music.  It was ridiculous.

The Holte always went through a song for each player before the game which used to help build the atmosphere now that seems to have been drowned out by the din pumping from the speakers.

been a few years since my last trip but have they ever fixed the PA system in the holte?

it used to be **** dreadful, absolutely deafening

there is a difference between noise and atmosphere, the music pumped in is noise for example, so is a drum, its not atmosphere

at least we dont stoop so low as post goal music

It doesn't sound like Alpay has calmed down at all.

Controversial former Aston Villa defender-turned-parliamentarian Alpay Ozalan has been involved in a shocking government scuffle in Turkey.

Alpay, who's now deputy for the Justice and Development Party (AKP), was recorded throwing punches at rival politicians during an assembly in Ankara on Wednesday.

Reports across Turkey outlined how a fight broke out over statements made by Özgür Özel, deputy chairman of the Republican People's Party whom Alpay is against.

"Tensions rose again during the budget negotiations in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey," outlet Sozcu stated.

"When Özgür Özel, who came to the podium to respond to Minister Süleyman Soylu, AKP Deputy Alpay Özalan marched on Özel.

I am so bored of Sweet Caroline. But we don’t have a choice because they force it on us at the end of every win.

Talking about the roar of the crowd reminds me of an interview with big Ron when we played Sunderland away in the cup where he said, ‘of course We will have to combat the Roker roar’ 🤣

English football has become a bit boring. It's an expensive hobby to go to each game, and there are a lot of kids.

I'm not saying it's worse - we just can't expect stadiums to be bouncing in England like we see abroad.

English football is a lot safer than it is abroad.

Should we change it to make it more "passionate" for a lack of a better word? And if so, how?

The younger, drunker, noisier, working class fans are being priced out of football in the UK, including Villa Park.

Yeah I was gonna say something similar.  I’ve been to a fair bit of German football and it’s great but they don’t seem to watch the actual game with the same vigour we do.

I’m comparing it to the several hundred other football matches I’ve been to over the years. I obviously don’t expect constant singing but the Holte End was silent for v prolonged periods in that first half. That’s why the Leicester fans were taking the piss and they weren’t the first fans to do it this season.

I don't think there's been a single stadium that hasn't been compared to a library by the away fans this season.
