Danny Ings

The small amount of time he was on the pitch, his touch and lay offs were chalk and cheese to watkins.

Ollie had 1 effort which led to our goal and was ineffective for the rest of the game, again poor touch mis placed passes wrong wave length on through balls.

Ings just looked far more comfortable in those minutes he was out there.

There's space for both in our 1st team Squad at the moment due to lack of anyone better at this level on our books who is proven.

I think that Ings will be warming the bench for most of the season. SG has made clear that he wants to focus on basics and defending before trying a possession game again. And as long as we're hoofing long balls to the front, Watkins is going to be favored over Ings because of his ability to hold up the ball.

Not proven, I know, but I would love to see Archer given more minutes.

I think he could do it, and, let's face it, our main strikers, especially Ings, are not performing well at the moment.

are you having a laugh?, are you really saying Watkins is good at holding up the ball?

No, not having a laugh...I've thought that he's good at holding up the ball for a long time. If you don't believe me, read what Guardiola said about him after the Man City game.

Don't get me wrong, I'd still rather play Ings in my ideal side, but SG isn't going to play my ideal side, and for the way he says he's going to play right now, Watkins is better.

Have we all kidded ourselves with this player?

  • Burnley ( 2013-14) 26 goals
  • Southampton ( 2019-20) 20 goals

only 2 more seasons has he scored more than 10 goals in a total of 13 seasons.

he has scored 117 goals in 337 games averaging a goal every 2.8 games.

Are we over rating him?

Yes. And that was when he was still at his best. He is just not the player he was, unfortunately.

I mean, he only has one proper good season in the prem so you tell me.

He’s got a good football brain, link up play is so much better than Watkins. Get him Coutinho and Buendia as the front three for a run of games and we’d improve massively. Lots of 1-2’s around the box with the movement from Ings and Buendia would create so much more. It won’t happen though unfortunately.

Should always use goals per minute rather than goals per game as you never know how many were off the bench etc.

Ings against lesser opponents, Watkins against better ones. Too easy?

Watkins when you're hoofing long balls and need him to hold up the ball.

Ings when you're playing Buendia and letting him thread through balls, because the two of them read each other so well.

I think so. He hasnt looked like a player who will get anywhere near 20 goals in a season for us. Gerrard has a quandary because Watkins is not scoring but Ings cannot play as a lone striker.

Has he even had 20 shots?

You only have to watch Danny, to know, that is unlikely to happen

Here's the question Paul, even though, its hypothetical.

Would Haaland score for us?

Yep. We'd be in the European places if we had him

We would not and he also would not get many chances for us

Of course he would. You are telling me we wouldnt have got another 4 points if we had Haaland. 2 against Leeds for a start. We'd have beaten West Ham too
