Doesn’t surprise me with McGinn, Luiz, Sanson and Ramsey likely fighting over two positions in midfield given we are after a quality CAM.  I know we need DCM but it looks like Smith might not see it as a priority this summer despite some fans clamouring for it given the amount of midfielders Smith has that he likes.

I’m not too keen on using Ramsey, don’t think he’s ready or good enough yet. Didn’t make much contribution or offer much last season other than energy/legs, fairly composed on the ball though. I think we involved him because we had to and were short on quality or form players. Didn’t stand out…

Barkley got injured and lost form, Sanson was in and out the side and struggled with injuries/knocks… McGinn wasn’t playing well either. Luiz ended up being given the lion’s share of defensive responsibility (in midfield) and struggled…

Nakamba performed admirably but within his limitations and usually when we were under the kosh or dominated and needed some defensive help…

I think a loan would be best for Ramsey and Carney (looks a lot better) should take his place.

McGinn and Sanson will battle it out for that no.8 CM spot. Maybe even Luiz if we get that new DM.

Covered Luiz and Nakamba at DM already.

For now, any of Jack, Buendia & Traore can play at CAM and I expect us to sign someone for either LW or CAM depending on how we plan to set up.

So

                     CAM

          CM                  DM

I don't care, whether we sign one or not.....as long as the job is done.

How he fixes that is up to him.

If we play with a disregard for stopping the opposition, I would say, to us all, Best of luck for next season.

That won’t happen. Overall, we did well last season and especially considering all of the disruptions and “negative factors” such as Covid, injuries, loss of form etc.

Some amazing performances and results…

I maintain that our “wings were clipped” and it was no fault of the club or management or even the players, despite our frustration with the like of Barkley. Mitigating circumstances…

I think most of us can agree that we have a lot of trust and faith in Dean.

Whether his approach or strategy lines up with our opinions is another matter, but he’s the man for the job.

We are just going to continue babbling on 🤣

While our manager and coaching team get on with the job in hand 🤣

McGinn needs to find his place in the team as we progress - he's struggled to keep up. He's one of these 'great white hope' players that gets cut a lot more slack than others, but he won't be a first teamer next season unless he finds what he can do consistently at the level we require.

I still think McGinn will be a starter but you'd like to think DS will get it out of his head McGinn must stagger to the finish line every single week. Crazy he was not subbed once last season and even the season before think only game up to December he went off in was Southampton when he did his knee so no choice.

We took Jack off 20 minutes before the end of Spurs match and comfortably held on so that surely dispels the notion we need our 11 best players on the pitch at all times to get a result? Part of the reason we start flag from 65th minute onwards is McGinn is done and can't press anymore so if that happens sub him.

I'm not disagreeing or agreeing with you.  Just like my point on Tammy, I think it's a need to get a quality alternative/option to Tammy and some people dont.  Some people point to having Wes back means we dont need another expensive striker.  I think like them I've never been convinced that we'll buy a DCM given we are after a CAM.  I understand all your points above but I think Smith likes what he has and I'd missed off Nakamba so that's five players for two spots.  Even if Ramsey goes out on loan that still means we have four players for two spots.  I love the idea of getting a specialised No.6 but given the midfielders we have and Smith loves them I think he'll play with two of them being the choices otherwise we'll probably be selling somebody and I dont see that at the moment.  I think he'll play 2 of those for the CM and DCM spots, whether they are specialised for it or not.

I dont see either Grealish or Buendia playing the CAM role, it doesnt look like that given how strongly they've gone in for ESR.  I'm assuming those two will play the wings with Traore as an option.

To be honest I dont think anybody has any idea what Smith and co are after as all we have is the ESR bids and then the rest is speculation from non-credible sources across the media.  All we are basically going on is our own view of what Smith should get and not what Smith is actually looking at position wise.

Justin Kluivert is leaving Roma this summer, obviously hasn’t lived up to the hype but said it before he could be an option for us to look at.

not a chance, hasnt lived up to the hype and honestly Anwar is a better option than him

Boubacar Kamara available at £15m, apparently the barcodes interested. We should be all over that, would massively improve our team.

He is so highly thought of but if Newcastle are the only team interested for a cut price fee then that is alarm bells for me

Yeah, it’s just my POV and perception of what we need and what would help us… you may well be right, although there has been at least one link or suggestion that we are after a DM so maybe we will try to sign one… the desire for a Romeu type and links to Sarr aswell…

We’ll just have to wait and see as you intimated…

I think we could well see Jack or Buendia at CAM, and interchanging with Traore and/or a new player.

Hard to disagree with you but he could well hit top form and be amazing for us…

Same can be said for Sanson, it would be excellent if the pair of them continued to push each other and genuinely compete for that CM spot. Sanson could well take over…

really believe we need a player like Kamara or Koopmeiners… would welcome either of them. We really do need a proper DM imo

Believed to be a Lifelong Arsenal fan and apparently and now being linked to them … https://the4thofficial.net/2021/07/arsenal-eyeing-a-move-for-this-dutch-midfield-ace-can-he-solve-artetas-problems/

According to De Telegraaf, as cited by Metro, Arsenal are interested in Teun Koopmeiners. The Gunners are closing in on the capture of Albert Sambi Lokonga, but it appears Mikel Arteta is determined to add more options. As such, Koopmeiners has been identified as a potential option, with the AZ Alkmaar midfielder believed to be a lifelong fan of Arsenal.

Don’t know enough about him and his stats are difficult to interpret how they would transfer from the Dutch league to prem. I can see Smith going for Winks and the tried and trusted route myself…

We've seen his top form in what? 5 games over the last two seasons? On his day, he's class, no doubt, but it happens so rarely.

2 of them were last 2 against Spurs and Chelsea. Keep that level up through next season we'll be laughing

Don’t really remember him in the Spurs game now but against Chelsea he was fantastic… doing his best work pressing into the final third. I just don’t see him as a specialist 6, but as this came from Preece I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s nonsense.

Agree with you. He is best pushing up the field, he does not suit a DM role at all.

Yep McGinn is not a DCM he is an 8 or 10 of some description, If we wants to play him as a 6 then we would be better off selling him.

If we are resorting to using him as a 6 it would be best to just sell him and get a proper 6 in, we shouldn't find ourselves in a position where players are played out of position that would show poor recruitment, and I really don't want to see Marvelous starting the first few games of the season until DL gets up to speed.

Not a 10 either, not for a decent side. Doesn’t posses anywhere near the quality or technical prowess to be a CAM, imo at least.

To play him there would be more befitting of a small & struggling side with a lack of quality players. I don’t like moves like that, Ollie is another that has been suggested in that manner. No no no…

McGinn’s an 8, a box to box CM.
