Anybody else think Declan Rice is the most over-rated player in the league?

I saw some nonsense about Chelsea preparing an £80m bid for him, so ever since I've been deliberately watching him closely in the West Ham games I've seen. I am completely baffled by what he is supposed to be so good at … other than a few inches in height I can't tell the difference between him and Ashley Westwood

I actually like Westwood, he is an accomplished mid-lower table PL player and has been for years. Never claimed to be any better by media nor fans.

But I really don't understand the Declan Rice hype. I have never seen him do anything "world class" or deserving of a high fee transfer. I much prefer Ward-Prowse, he is more vertisile and has a killer free kick.

Is it because Rice plays for West Ham?

Sure we are bias, but can anyone please try to objectively explain Declan Rice hype?

I really like Rice, definitely  would have him for us

Doesnt have to be a replace, just part of the squad and competition, could easily play that Luiz role - Luiz hasnt been as good last 5-6 games for example so could replace or even play centre back which is where he started out

Ah OK, thanks. I've never used that word in my life so I guess that why I've never figured it out!

You need to watch a Jim Jefferies special 😂

I'm sure it's been mentioned before but West Ham are a team of giants from front to back.

Dawson, Ogbonna, Soucek, Rice, Antonio will win headers but they also have players with good delivery. Cresswell, Bowen, Benrahma will get th ball in the box so we are going to have to defend so well to win this one.

I will say it again....if SJM and Dougie dig deep and have good games.....we have a chance......we have to win that midfield.

This, coupled with their strength from corners, may make it really tough for us. We will need to be at our most creative whilst finding a way to stand up to them on set pieces.

Hmm I should check Dawson anytime goal scorer

I used to think that.

Declan has presence, you either have it or you don't....He is not easily relieved of the ball, he has strength and power, in everything he does, he also has vision and awareness....He is not a quinntessential ball player with quick feet.....He is more of a Duncan Edwards type all strength and power....one of the best yound players of all time, was not noted for his quick feet.....He'll win his unfair share of aerial balls too, subsequently  winning territory and gaining ground, it helps to secure the initiative and keeping the ball out of the faces at the back.

He is so hard to shift off the ball and so difficult to play through....He gives West Ham that extra dimension of power and with the addition of Soucek, it just compounds that....when you have that in midfield, it gives the attackers confidence to play and not have to funnel back to defend....they can get on with what they do.

In short he is a power House, like Yaya Toure to be more modern or Michael Ballack.

I'd be inclined to play another mid, drop Traore and let Jack Ollie and Ross bamboozle them with some sexy football.

me too.

I have no idea of the fitness of Morgan....but if he was ok, I would be tempted to get him to join McGinn and Luiz....in a 4-3-3.

                    Martinez

Cash      Konsa     Mings    Target

      McGinn   Sanson     Luiz

Barkley          Watkins       Grealish

with McGinn and Luiz helping the full backs in needed moments...The block must stay in synch, so they can't play through us....when a full back goes on the overplap, the one midfielder can drop back in temporarily....when we haven't got the ball we will look more compact.

Yes, Cash must be fed up of doing so much overtime, SJM would help him a lot.

He is too exposed Phil....he is actually playing well, but needs some help.

Can’t  see Barkley in that position at all. He will drift inside leaving a huge space in front of McGinn or are you aware of a clause in his contract  that says he has to play when fit ?

In such a case McGinn could fill that space.....I think with 2 wingers, we will be bullied in the middle....The game is dynamic, so we will play according to what duels we win or what territory/space we seize.

I know what you mean but I thought we showed tremendous steel at Southampton and I'm not at all concerned about us in that regard. Tough game tho.

We will need to defend crosses and set pieces a little better is what OBE is referring to when you think how we conceded twice down there despite them hardly having an attack all night. Think it was a free header from an early corner and then right at the start of the second half we just let Benrahma have a little jog and cross and someone else headed it in.

It was backs to the wall at Southampton but even then we needed an amazing Martinez save to keep out the free header from the corner near the end and that's a worry given they have Soucek and Dawson has scored from two corners in last two games.

We don't want to go back to Burnley defensive standard in the second half of that just 7 days on so need to make sure we get the distances right when corners are being swung in.
