The AVFC FFP thread

The damage FFP has done to football is already sickening and yet it continues. What a cancer on the game FFP is.

Derby and Reading the latest victims this week. My heart goes out to the clubs and fans.

I am glad Purslow and the board are committed to using any dodge or loophole to getting around FFP,. They treat it with the contempt it deserves. Thats what successful clubs have to do.

Let's be fair derby's problems are not ffp but rather the massive overspending that ffp have highlighted.

They owe 50 million and have a wage bill 160% of their earnings.

You could argue that without the ffp threat that figure could be higher.

They were a car crash of their own making

Absolutely this. It's like blaming someone who crashes a car at 120 miles an hour and ends up in intensive care on the speed limit. The speed limit/FFP is there to say "don't do this bad thing" but the driver/Derby ignored the rules and did the bad thing and are in a financial utter mess as a result. When the idiot gets out of intensive care they'll get a penalty for speeding and dangerous driving. FFP is similar.

The latest Swiss ramble Post about finances over the last 10 years paint us in a pretty bad light.

9th overall for salaries paid in those 10 years (don't know how much of that relates to the overpaying of wages we did the seasons just before we came down?). That's 9th of everyone, and in not one of those seasons have we finished in the top 10... last season's 11th being our highest. And for 3 of them we were in the championship.

Also sitting at 88% salary to turnover rate for the last 10 years. Among the worst in the PL, only Brentford (156%?!) are higher. We have not been getting value for money for a long time.

Wonder how we compare for this season (and last) and whether it looks rosier at the moment.

Here's the link for anyone that wants to read it.

It also points out how much our owners have contributed.  However, it all lacks a lot of circumstance and detail, which would truly help a reader to understand what has gone on and what is going on now.

They do own something that is now worth considerably more than their original £60 investment though, is there any way to find out a clubs current worth.

Club is only worth as much as someone is willing to pay for it. There is no golden formula.

Newcastle sold for 306m and there was talk of West ham going for 350m. Considering our size and assets you would have to be looking at between 350m and 400m.

I doubt Villa have made a single year of profit since Ellis sold up in 2006. And we still haven't achieved anything better since.

Well that's not strictly true, we'd finished 16th under Deadly and were only going one way - we then had some seasons in Europe and a cup final before things went south again.

NSWE are playing the long game, though. The early investment was pivotal to our development as a side and the youth investment could save us tens of millions going forward. There are a ton of reasons to be optimistic.

If NSWE "did a Lerner" they'd make a profit. Explains why they are actual elite businessmen and didn't inherit a fortune.

Club Value probably 250-300mill. Watkins, Mcginn, Mings, Konsa, Cash could easily raise 200million. Add in the youngsters coming through (Ramsey has saved us 30million). From an FFP perspective we are in a much better position than  Everton for example who have capped out and have many players with limited resale value. Pretty much every player in our squad except Young would get north of 20 million, with quite a few 40million+

And all this in 3 years, imagine where we would if we hadn't given everyone else a 10yr head start

That's the plan. I just hope it happens. We need to find ways to increase revenue to match our spending- and I expect the answer to that is more sponsorship, more merchandise, more corporate, better branding, and a improved Villa Park.

Not quite true... NS was born into richest family in Egypt 😊 it doesn't mean he is a bad business man though...
