The argument against him has been he doesn't score enough.

Yet he always meets his xg every season,  and his xg so far this season put him in the top 2 or 3 strikers the league.  The fact he was behind it meant he would go on a steak that brings him back to or above it... before his next lean streak.

The point is, his goals come and go but over the course of a season they're fine for where we are, and fine for where we're trying to be as he also brings assists and a whole lot else alongside.

It was pretty obvious what you meant mate. Even though I don't like the use of xG to draw conclusions on team performances, it's a pretty good measuring stick for strikers, especially for making predictions.

Like many players, consistency is the challenge

Sure, consistency is the challenge if you mean “score every game” or be at the level of Kane/Haaland. But in any other metric I can think of he’s our most consistent striker since at least Yorke/Saunders/Atkinson. Getting double figures in four consecutive seasons (which he’s three goals off this year in September) basically guarantees that.

A hatrick will grab the headlines...

*Et hum* we're not the media darlings, so it won't get the same Wankfest appraisal we so often see on other teams.

Had it been Haaland that scored the Hatrick yesterday, MoTD would still be analysing the ***** now!

Expect to also see Clavert-lewin get called up to England ahead of Watkins, and Conor Coady ahead of Konsa.

Kane Haaland probably wouldn't have scored the goals he scored today. Makes the absolute dribble posted on here recently about him more hilarious

Who's posted dribble about Kane or Haaland!?

Fair play to Ollie for yesterday, great performance. But which 'goals' would they not have scored exactly? The first one is them all over. The third took a huge deflection.

The second yeah fair play, they can't carry the ball in that manner (Kane a bit moreso than Haaland) but tbf Steele should have saved that one. Watch it back - he didn't strike it cleanly.

Taking nothing away from him for that second though, the pace to get in behind and the sharp cutback across the defender was quality play.

Nah to be honest he's definitely grabbed headlines and is getting praise.

I get it to a certain extent but I'm not 100 percent on board with this train that the media have some sort of hidden agenda against us lol.

That's what was plastered all over BBC website and sports social media for a good while yesterday after our game.

Steele was unsighted by dunk.

He's already on 7 goal contributions this season after 7 games. That's already 1/3rd of the way to his record tally of 21 from last season.

Under Emery in the PL he's at 0.83 G+A per 90 and 0.59 goals per 90.

Especially with strikers, amazing what that first goal, after a drought, does for confidence. He has come on leap and bounds, the result being he is beginning to look like a top - drawer striker who can even get better.

Really hope the contract situation gets resolved asap, just to give the whole place a buzz and also having that security of a regular goalscorer which all successful teams need.

I think that performance guarantees him an England call- up, be nice to see Konsa get a shout too. Thought he was the best defender on the pitch by a long way.

He's developing an excellent relationship with Diaby. As they start to really click it's going to cause some teams some real headaches. Genuine pace and ball carrying ability, with the likes of Ramsey and Zaniolo following them into the box.
