Villa Park was epic this evening. The noise in the first half was incredible and the scenes at the end were just amazing. It was a warm night, the players showed heart and ability and the old place absolutely rocked.

I thought we deserved the win, for all that Everton huffed and puffed, I thought we edged it overall - and I think Everton are a very good side.

Heaton was nicely solid, exactly what you'd hope for, Guilbert was excellent I thought; his pace and energy opens up space down the flank for others - dropping Elmo was the right decision based on that performance and on the other side I thought Taylor was really solid again

Then we have the pairing in the middle. I'll start with the obvious - the man whose name will be rolling around Gareth Southgate's head tonight - Tyrone Mings was immense, a colossus - he's a leader, he can do the simple stuff and the dramatic stuff and he does it all with a little bit of a strut - there was a tackle with about five minutes left in the first half that was simply perfection - appearing out of nowhere to sweep a ball away - he's a Rolls Royce - and I see no reason why he shouldn't play in more shirts with lions on. He's not alone though and what's brilliant about our defence is that Bjorn Engels is very quietly, very efficiently excellent next to him - we look decent at the back.

In midfield, Luiz is a very good footballer - but I think there's a great footballer in there - it's important we remember that he's younger than Callum O'Hare - that he'll make mistakes from time to time - we need to be patient with him - he looks like he's worth it. I love watching John McGinn chase down someone who has the ball, I know what's going to happen, you know what's going to happen, but the poor bugger in possession often has no idea - I feel bad for those who have to play against him,. Grealish was very good, without being flash - he got us out of tight areas at times and linked back to front really well - as did Jota - he's got really quick feet and an eye for a pass - I still don't think he's a winger - he has no pace at all, but he's fun to watch with the ball.

Trezeguet is rapidly becoming a favourite - he's a little bit of Grealish and a little bit of McGinn spliced together - he's smooth, but he'll chase lost causes and get stuck in - at some point, he's going to win us a game on his own.

If Tyrone Mings is Superman at the back - Wesley is the incredible Hulk up front - I thought he was brilliant - never mind the goal, he beat Keane and Mina up tonight - he dragged them all over the park, held the ball up brilliantly and used it intelligently - he's learning that the Premier league is a fight and we're learning that there's plenty of fight in him. The goal will do him good, but what I felt was really impressive was his desire and energy to put in the work that made our second goal. I think we've got a good one.

I thought the ref was rubbish - allowing players on both sides to stand over free kicks all game - then not having the balls to back that up by sending off Coleman after he'd kicked Trezeguet on the ankle - in fairness, it wasn't big things he got wrong - it was every small thing.

What will stick with me tonight though is the noise, the atmosphere - there aren't many grounds that can match that - there aren't many grounds that can play host to the celebrations for the second goal and do them justice - there isn't anywhere quite like Villa Park. There isn't a better feeling than winning three points and earning all three.

We're back.

Brilliant Summary..I felt a "like" wasn't enough.....there should be a " Brilliant" button

I loved that tonight. Looking up from the lower north to see half of the Trinity on its feet jumping up and down was something I hadn't seen before. Particularly in play, and it not being against a local rival.

You feel a togetherness.

Cheers to Everton by the way, we've been through a lot together historically and they helped us out tonight

some of the old un's have been asleep in that stand over the last 10 years, poor souls.......they have a new team now......On Waking....one asked "if Ron Saunders was back"

On a slightly random note, it was interesting how Everton cynically blocked every quick free-kick (yet scythed down Trezeguet when he returned the favour) while Bournemouth endlessly hurled themselves to ground claiming non-existent off-the-ball shenanigans. I had forgotten what a den of cheats this division is.

remember, they don'y clatter in this league.....stealthier, snidier and use their hips very well or in the case of refs like Oliver, just push you in the back for every challenge....we'll get used to it.

more prudent in every way....including cheating.

Liverpool might be the team to beat this season, but we will always beat them with the atmosphere at VP. We win hands down over the depressing Kop at  Anfield.

No disrespect to the fans, but Sweet Caroline or Never walk alone.

Hot, sweaty, nervy, but deserved win. Wesley MOTM for me but Guilbert and Jota but excellent for their first starts at home. Everton improved but they lacked quality up top and overall I think we deserved the win.

It's a great feeling when your football club you support has that special connected feeling between coaches, players, and fans. Atmosphere incredible last night. Including that last 2 home games last season that is 4 straight attendances over 40,000. When was the last time that happened at Villa Park?

I think it is going to be a challenging season but if we continue to show the unity of purpose like we have done so far I think we should be fine. UTV.

Everton were better than us st the start but failed to take advantage.

premier league lesson number 1

Lesson number 2 I think is once you’ve got a lead defend it to the death, which we did last night as well, although Everton were a bit crap at using their chances. Theo Walcott - how are the mighty fallen, eh?

Everton remind me of Villa in the dark ages when we would sign has beens like keiran richardson and micah richards and joelean lesscots. and make big announcments...... They expect their fans to go wild about Fabian delph, theo walcot and iwobi. and the so called wonder kid moyes kean. It's just press and guess by their transfer commitee.

They've been stinking out the prem for years just doing enough it's time they had a stint in the champ.

Errrr, Everton finished 8th last season.. if thats "just doing enough" then I feel sorry for you

Also Delph, Walcott & Iwobi are infinitely better than Lescott, Richardson & Richards. Actually each one of them on their own is better than those 3 combined.

Iwobi’s a has been at 23? 😂

Edit: makes sure you have an early night. You got a long drive to Swansea in the morning.

Trezeguet reminds me a bit of James Milner when he played for us, I think Trez is way quicker and way more skilful but his work rate and the way he hunts the ball down is unbelievable, he looks like he's been playing in the PL for years.Douglas will get there, obviously a quality player and will be one of the first names on the team sheet for us every week but he looks knackered after an hour, the Premier League is relentless so it will take a newbie to English football time to get up to speed. They obviously don't fancy throwing Marvelous into it yet as he's not fit enough.

I don't think many teams will enjoy being pressed and hunted by Wesley, Trezeguet, McGinn and Douglas Luiz, all have a fantastic ability to nick the ball from an opponent.

So pleased for Wesley, it angered me that people were questioning his capabilities TWO games in when he's never played in the country before, stick your 'slow start' up your a**es!

I watched NBC Sports and had no issues. Coverage was great with no delay or interruptions. I watched it on Dish, did you watch online?

I watched it on The NBC Sprts app on my tablet - have also watched it on my PC.  You may be right - perhaps I should watch it on my TV - Xfinity

been reading the Everton forum.

Strangely i couldnt find a single poster who gave us credit for that win.

All the posts i saw were basically "villa are a pub team", "villa will be relegated", "villa are a trash team full of crap players", "we should have won that 100%" etc etc etc.

They all seem to think we are 100% down.

Strange really that they gave zero credit to us for the win, even when we lose we usually accept that the other team deserved it? (if they did)

i hope we arent as bad as they think we are :)

Watching some of the highlights, Coleman should be off for that ‘free kick’

Nobody else I’ve spoke to seems to agree but that was reckless and dangerous. I can’t be the only one to think that? This is all in line with Oliver’s shocking refereeing performance

angered you? .......they were just saying what they saw.....not killing the player off.

It was a case of uncertainty, anything wrong with that?

His first 2 games was in stark contrast to his 3rd.........what is a man to think?( sorry for the "Frasier" line)

Everton had one shot on target the whole match. As for the fans I hardly hear a peep from them. It is likely that they will finish above this us season but I wouldn't say the gap was massive between the two sides last night.

What a fantastic night last night was down at VP, atmosphere was rocking and the team were fantastic to a man. They really had to put in a shift to win that game and it seems to mean so much more than a win in the Championship.

In all fairness to Everton, even though they were second-best in the game they still had their chances, and had they scored a couple of easy chances we would still be sat on 0 points. Thankfully the luck was on our side although I have to say I felt we probably deserved to win that game regardless.

Hopefully that will be the kickstart our season needs and we can get out of a relegation battle before we ever get into one, certainly if we play that well every game we have nothing to worry about. It's nice to announce ourselves well and truly back in the PL as a quick browse of the Everton forum yesterday showed that a lot of fans still think we will be exactly the same as 15/16 and go straight back down, despite the completely new owners, manager and team. I think we would surprise a lot of people if we stayed up, which based on last night's performance seems ridiculous.

It's even more enjoyable when you remember last summer we couldn't pay a tax bill and had a winding up order looming over our heads - now our record signing Brazilian striker is scoring goals in the Premier League. Whatever happens this season I still think it's a minor miracle that we're in this position anyway.

Enjoy the long weekend Villans, and keep watching that El Ghazi goal over and over again... UTV

Magnanimous in defeat.......and as a matter of interest, where did they say they would finish?
