Great players can be great in any era especially with the benefits of modern diets and nutrition, coaching, facilities , sportswear etc. As for Cowan's, he was absolutely class and could put the ball on a sixpence from anywhere on the pitch. A really shit pitch. That was just one of his many traits. Lets not pretend every player in the PL is special because they certainly aren't and haven't been. They get the best of everything including surfaces to play on and are still quite often shit. There has been a right load of crap over the years especially at Villa. What your basically saying is the likes of the two players you mentioned aren't better than the likes of Ghazi, Trez etc. I wont even start on the players during the Lambert era, and many others that have played in the PL for us that most will forget about in a few years. I'd take the delivery of a prime Cowans over anyone in our squad other than probably Luiz and have him on our right over Bailey, or a prime Morley on the left. Legends. With the vast improvement in sports science, technical coaching and professionalism in the modern game, it's pretty unlikely many of earlier era players would get anywhere near the PL. Back in the day George Best was considered a great technical player, but if you watch clips of him vs foden or sterling you will clearly see that they are light years ahead of him in that regard.
