Premier League 2019-2020 Thread

The league are saying they'd like to be back in training on the 18th May for an 8th June restart according to the BBC.

That suggests they're very keen to get a season finished before the end of July and the contract expiry dates.

Rick Parry from the ELF has suggested it would be impossible to run beyond that date - I think he's probably right.

He's also said that if the Premier League say no relegation that the EFL will be looking to take them to court for a breach of their obligations.

He might struggle if they decide not to relegate and promote within the EFL which has been discussed.

Also he wants teams to play at home grounds not Neutral not sure how he swinging that , plus even if they do play it seems there are a huge amount of clubs that won't make it to next season

Maybe he wants to look at how their is FFP in EFL and yet they have a 900 mil hole deficit between tv income and wages

He also wants to get rid of parachute payments ...considering that those payments really keep the teams down afloat who i'm not sure what he suggests is a better way.

Like somebody has mentioned here,EFL want there games played at there original venues, yet PL say its safest way to have neutral venues so cant see how it can work? Also PL have prob said they want 3 teams relegated but thats up to now and Ive seen somebody say that PL rules state season has to finish in order to relegate teams.

Maybe its time the PL and EFl where brought back toether and rebranded , that way they could try to reduce the gap from the PL to the Championship ( rebrand as PL2 maybe )

Parry saying Parachute payments are an evil there is no way you can stop them without crippling the clubs that go down and in general even with those payments clubs struggle  , look how many clubs have gone down and never come back

Too add they also have FFP which for the most part goes after teams who have come down or been in the PL recently so they need to address the formula for that as well

The Premier League was formed because teams wanted that gap between the Premier league and Championship - the EFL wanted more sharing, the teams at the top took their ball and buggered off with it - they've no intention of sharing with the EFL. The Premier league has also said it doesn't want a PL2 - I think again because it would encourage increased sharing of the TV monies and provide a competitor product. Essentially, if you can come up with a good reason for Man Utd to like a PL2, then you might have a chance at getting one.

A question - if we're looking to play behind closed doors at neutral venues, isn't the point that we're operating in the safest places possible - with the least number of people present as can be and the least disruptive measure available?

If so, why on earth are we looking at using the biggest stadium in the country, that's slap bank in the middle of a huge urban area and has a huge staff of people required to operate it?

Wembley are another lot with their snout in the trough - we'd be better off playing the London games as Spurs lodge or at Cobham - both of which have plenty of Premier league standard pitches (Chelsea have six that are approved for that standard) and Spurs has built in accommodation for players. Are we wanting behind closed doors or not?

I would guess for the TV camera's , as other than that your right pointless playing in an empty stadium just highlights the lack of fans and atmosphere more.

The perception you get it that footballers don't really want to play but feel they have to because they are being paid. Ben Stokes says he will do anything to get cricket back, even if it means playing BCD. Different attitude.

I have read that Rick Parry thinks that the premier league parachute payments are a evil that need to be eradicated. A couple of points. Firstly if they scrapped them then all relegated clubs would probably go out of business within a couple of years  due to the huge chasm in tv rights between the premier and football league. Secondly I am surprised that   Mr Parry hasn't exploded in a cloud of  hypocrisy  as when he was chief executive of the Premier League he was one of the key players in creating this  as a totally separate product from the rest of the football league, resulting in said massive financial differences.

By the time they restart social distancing will be relaxed. Not sure the slip fielders are 2 meters apart either.

Its a bit different than 18 players in the penalty area for a corner.

And remember Liverpool fans join together on social media to form the virtual Kop. Press our red button to access web cameras for plenty of Liverpool celebrity fans. And james cordon from LA will bring some classic banter'.

Dirty Leeds fans piping up saying if we reject the relegation/promotion we are hypocrites for 'complaining about unfair sportsmanship'

Big difference from blatent cheating to having a huge pandemic of thousands of people dying and us adding to the casualy list you fools.
