As others have said, Micah Richards is a decent pundit, dont know why you're so fixated on him Dem

Not sure this is the thread for it, but I'm baffled by the lack of good pundits in England considering the size of the sport there.

I think it’s because they keep dipping into the same pool of ex-players who had either played in Manchester or Liverpool (both types are boring to listen to unless you support one of those clubs)

A decent pundit does not necessarily need to be a great ex-player, look at Rosenior for example.

That’s why I stuck up a few Ron manager quotes a couple of pages back. As a parody he is far better than some of the real so-called pundits we have to endure

It's because your ability as a pundit is not the top priority on whether you get hired.

Unfortunately the british public want someone they know to give them a warm fuzzy feeling when they watch football, whether they know what they're talking about is secondary.

Michael Cox or Nicky Bandini or Jonathan Wilson or Andy Brassel or Jules Breach would all be better pundits than Alan Shearer. But Joe Public has never heard of them so they're not interested in listening to what they have to say.

Why is it? Several people including me pointed out that this was a non story. You and others were moaning because you thought they were sacking white pundits to be replaced by black pundits.

There was never a report or even a suggestion that this was what was actually happening. It was faux outrage over a hypothetical situation that hadn’t happened and wouldn’t happen.

You’ve just admitted that it’s not happening, so why was everyone moaning?

Its pointless because it was one sentemce moaning about our discussion. People are allowed to speculate if they wish.

Key word i said was if. i even went on to say that it was likely to be on a rotational basis and stated be interesting to see how it goes.

Okay. I just find it weird to be moaning about something that hasn't happened and wasn't ever going to happen.

The British football-watching public have the unfortunate belief that it's more important whether someone played the game at a higher level, rather than how good they are talking about it and communicating. I actually think Alan Shearer is pretty reasonable now, and certainly much better than he used to be, but it's telling it took him so long to get to this point.

Exactly.

And yeah I agree about Shearer. He used to be dreadful so fair play to him for realising his weaknesses and working on them.

You like labelling things that are wierd that you dont agree with 😁

Might as well call every speculation thread wierd then on that basis!

No, I label things that I think are weird as weird.

A transfer speculation thread and a post about being outraged about something racist that hasn't happened and won't happen aren't remotely the same thing, Dem.

I’m worried that the next time they replace a white presenter on The Antiques Roadshow the new presenter could be black.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m cool with black people, I just think it could be the wrong message at the wrong time. I’m basing this on absolutely no knowledge of anything, it’s just an opinion that lots of black people would not be as good at presenting old vases as Fiona Bruce. So I wonder what they are bloody playing at messing with a popular format?

It’s just an opinion, I just don’t like Ian Wright as much as I like Mary Beard, and Ian Wright is black, not that I care. I’m just speculating.

Always a sad state when your face and name mean more than what you know and say.

If anything, this is the tokenism and lack of meritorious hiring people should actually be outraged about.

black white or orange the punters will still not hide their disgust that the vase/picture etc is worth far less than they thought for 'insurance purposes'

To be honest it shouldn't even be a criteria.

You don't have to have played the game at all to be able to analyse and talk about football. I'd argue you're probably better at it if you HAVEN'T played the game.

That's not to say ex-players don't have a punditry role. They CAN be pundits. But for me the ex player should be the pundit you have to give the perspective of what it's like from a player's point of view. Not necessarily leading the tactical analysis

For what it is worth, I think you have picked an excellent example. I watch Bargain Hunt regularly as I have an  interest in British pottery (my wife worked in the Potteries before moving to civilisation ). One would hope that the 'experts' had in-depth knowledge of antiques with maybe specialist knowledge in specific areas. The BBC have discovered a bloke called Danny Sebastian who appears to be a glorified market trader/car booter; when asked for an opinion, he just reads out what is on the label of the item - but ticks the Diversity box. However there are three other non white experts who are excellent; an Asian (possibly Indian) lady who knows a lot about jewellery, a possibly Chinese man who knows a lot about antiques from that area and another Asian (Raj Bisram) who has good knowledge on most things. Horses for courses I think.
