They just don't work together. Yeah they are too similar, Hourihane scores free kicks and gets assists from corners and free kicks so his stats look good. But when you actually watch him play when it's not a free kick hes not creative at all. Whelan.. no point saying anything. He'll be gone end of season. Johnnyp
Only McGinn getting beyond and up to Abraham. Hourihane muck. A coward with and without the ball. Bree has surprised me. Tidy with the ball. Plays it well off both sides.

Would like to see Bree at right back when we have a proper backline to pick from, playing like he deserves his chance. Bree? Why on earth? What has he done to deserve it? He could hang a sign over his head: "I'm just filling in for Christmas holidays".
Farlz
It's incredibly worrying how we're still a nothing side without Grealish
PompeyVillan
Elmo has been poor on and off the ball. Whelan should retire, McGinn has tried but meh. Bolasie blows hot and cold and El Ghazi struggles to get involved. Hutton does his best but isn't a great right back let alone left back.
PieFacE Posted December 26, 2018 VT Supporter Share Posted December 26, 2018 (edited) I'd give O'Hare a go. We lack any kind of creativity in the middle. Just having a player who will look for space in-between the lines will help hugely here. Edited December 26, 2018 by PieFacE

Could have done with him out there first half. I don't get this either - Unlucky to be subbed V leeds, earlier had created a goal - Elghazi comes on - does nothing, yet starts the next game. Would be surprised if Kjodia is moved on soon.

You’d rather Elmo or Hutton?

OutByEaster? Posted December 26, 2018 Moderator Share Posted December 26, 2018 In every other game under Smith, we've looked like a team with a plan, a team trying to do something - it hasn't always worked, but games have been about us and our plans and ideas - we haven't turned up today. His whole body language says that he doesn't want the ball, he's just here to help until new boys come in in Jan.
jjaacckk91
Just checked the bench and I'd take Whelan off for everyone but Bunn. He's putting the handbrake on us moving the ball so far.
Indigo
Another thing this highlights is how much of a loss Tuanzebe is. His ability to carry the ball out from the back and start attacks could make up for the likes of Whelan not being able to piece things together but instead we've been even more turgid than we otherwise would have been. Honestly a bit surprised Bree hasn't offered more in that sense considering in theory he should be more comfortable on the ball.

There just isn't room for him - our problem at the moment is a lack of alternatives in midfield and defence - in the shape we play, there's not room for O'Hare at the moment.

Ohare isn’t an out and out striker. He can play midfield, just behind the front men. His enthusiasm and movement alone would be a massive improvement on Whelan and Hourihane.
