Xann
Got the invite... Quote Event theme: Glitterball Dress code: Dress to Impress! Prosecco reception 3 course meal All inclusive drinks; beer, wine, spirits & softs DJ/Disco Fun casino Will probably decline next week. Someone is right now trying to persuade me go, suggesting we "cause some anarchy" She's nice and I'm quite fond of her, but her potential to cause anarchy is fairly low IMHO. I like that the reason you're not going is because of the disappointingly low chance of anarchy I will go to mine. I always do. And our other one. I like Christmas.

Davkaus
I never miss mine. Free food, free bar, 2 days off work, and paid for travel and a plush hotel.
mjmooney Posted October 18, 2017 VT Supporter Share Posted October 18, 2017 When I was working I always went to them, usually with embarrassing results. Quite a relief to be out of it now.
choffer Posted October 18, 2017 VT Supporter Share Posted October 18, 2017 I could go to one of three, depending on where I happen to find myself on any given day. Have decided to swerve the one in my normal office and go to the Oxford one as the percentage of nice people is higher there. Nothing at all to do with the fact that our Oxford office is 95% female. mjmooney Posted October 18, 2017 VT Supporter Share Posted October 18, 2017 (edited) There used to be some great ones at the University. One year the women in the registry office all rocked up in basques/stockings/suspenders. This was before the era of phone cameras, which was probably just as well. chrisp65
More often than not, I decline. Every once in a while I decide I’ll join in, then quickly remember why I usually decline, and leave within approximately 20 minutes. We have a strange policy here of the party being free, but then the venue and food being crap to keep the cost down. I’ve argued for years that if we each contribute a tenner it would be a better event. But no, it’s more important that it’s free than good. So, I’ve excused myself from this year’s cordoned off ‘private’ area in a cold shabby bar with lager or house wine, sticky carpet, and acres of beige snack food. For two consecutive years I killed off the same uncle and had to attend his funeral on the day of the party. Ha! They said. We’ve caught you out, he was your excuse last year. Yes, I confessed. Uncle Fernando and his unfortunate goat based death is indeed a fiction. But he will die every Christmas until you arrange something decent. Anyway, for a few years now, a few of us have had our own alternative event. With actual food and decent drinks. A few years ago this grew to a point where some people tried to seize power and start suggesting alternative dates and alternative venues and worst of all, an ‘itinerary’. These people have since been dealt with and we are now back to the original core group. First rule of Christmas Club?
Rodders
Yes, going to both - as I switched jobs halfway through the year - two christmas dos. With people who aren't going to be getting hammered so it's just convivial drinking and food with low chance of outrageous antics. With all my mates deciding this is the year they are spawning the future, social occasions for getting a bit tipsy seem to be far fewer In fairness I love their little kids, but I've had bottles of whisky waiting for some shared indulgence, still waiting on the shelf. Such occasions to enjoy with some booze shall not be missed!
Seat68
Yeah, free booze, free food, free hotel in central birmingham. Its foolish not to.
villa4europe
giving mine a miss this year, last year i had 8 pints and various shots before we got there and it was a free bar once there, i just got blind drunk, far drunker than those around me my company will also have a client do late November which ive been told i have to go to this year, usually starts at a swanky bar in brum and then splits out across the various strip clubs with the company credit cards, not as fun as it sounds
mottaloo
For me, the works xmas bash has lost it's appeal and it's fair to say that i simply grew out of it. Even the offer ofa hotel room invariably means most who drive home the next morning are still over the legal limit. Plus the hangovers last longer for me and besides, i hardly like working with most of em, so why would i socialise, offering little more than polite chit chat when all i have in common with them is just work ? Fair do's to those who still enjoy their xmas hooley, though.
bobzy
Love them - will be attending 3 (department, regional and firm-wide) Christmas parties. Everyone is in a good mood, you get plied with food and drink and those who tend not to socialise throughout the year let their hair down. Just a great time of year - thoroughly enjoy it*. * - As long as I don't make a tit of myself.
rodders0223
I don't believe anyone from my immediate team will be attending this year. So I will definitely be going then, and getting triple drunk. As good as excuse as any.

chrisp65
In defence of the Christmas Party, it has previously lead to my one and only proper over the desk office shag. Nope, it wasn't my review and I wasn't the receiver. Traditional, one man, one woman, pants down, 3 minute sexathon. Happy times.
