Booked tonight and he misses the semi final.

That would be biggest punishment he could suffer if he starts messing around v Belgium. See if ref has the bottle to do it.

Brazil might actually be better without him, they'll move the ball quicker.

It's such an obviously better system that I don't really see the arguments against it.

I guess it's 'tradition'.

It’ll take years to implement because they’re too scared to change things.

Other sports would just make the decision and get on with it.

Winds me up.

im sure lineker said first world cup in history with no brazil, italy, germany or argies in the semi finals

past winners cut from 4/8 down to 2/6 today too

Certainly true. Also true without Italy on the list FWIW. (Assuming we count W.Germany as Germany between 1954 and 1990).

There have only ever been 4 finals without an appearance by Brazil/Argentina/Germany. Italy have played in (and won) 3 of those (1934, 1938, 2006).

Spain v Holland in 2010 was the only previous final without one of those 4. 2018 will obviously become the second whoever gets there.

Belgium have made the semi-finals for only the second time in history (Mexico '86 and the Maradona goal the only other time). France are there for the 6th time. (1958, 1982, 1986, 1998, 2006) reaching the final in their last two attempts and obviously winning at home in '98.

They have faced each other at the World Cup twice before. France have won both of them, beating Belgium 3-1 in 1938 and more recently in the 3rd/4th place play-off game in 1986 when France ran out 4-2 winners after extra time.

Belgium are the only team to have actually won every game (counting penalty shoot out win as a drawn game).

Out of the 6 teams left Belgium Vs France would probably be the best final but obviously that can't happen due to the sides of the draw

Belgium P5 W5 D0 L0

France P5 W4 D1 L0

Croatia P4 W3 D1 L0

Sweden P4 W3 D0 L1

England P4 W2 D1 L1

Russia P4 W2 D1 L1

Only thing left to do now is get 6 down to 4, down to 2

France/Belgium Vs England/Sweden or Croatia/Russia

France Croatia final imo.

That’s certainly what my money would be on.

But the way this World Cup has gone, it really could be any combination of the teams left!

How come Belgiums penalty shoot out counts as a win and England’s doesn’t?

They don't? Belgium have won all of their games in normal time.

Roberto Martinez has done a masterful job with Belgium.

Fair play to him, he made the right changes in terms of selection and tactics. Everyone could see that KDB further up the pitch had to happen. But the formation change was spot on and so was bringing Fellani and Chaldi into the starting 11. Let's see what he does in the semi, if it's back to the wing backs they will lose.

Well done to Martinez for pushing Vertonghen out to the left. I know he gets huge amount of stick as manager but he at least realised his tactics v Japan wouldn't work last night so altered them.

Belgium front 3 were great first half and won Belgium the game. Casemiro was massive miss, Fernandinho was awful trying to stop the counter attacks.

Second half Brazil came alive and should've forced extra time with chances they missed. Overall though another underwhelming world cup for them, seems to be a trend in recent times.
