Gareth has his boys and he will not deviate from them. It’s more amazing he hasn’t included Mason Mount in this selection.

Injured or he would be in there we all know it!  Safegate is an utter word removed!

Sorry if already posted but what is he talking about? For footballing reasons Henderson should be nowhere near the International team as now playing in a league where the standard is not yet good enough.   Really can’t stand this guy.

Gareth deserves props for standing up for Saka, Sancho and Rashford against racism and talking about the positives of a multicultural England.

However, that he avoids the elephant in the room about the Saudi league and the human rights issues there to justify a terrible selection undermines a lot of the good he does off the pitch.

The whole point of a friendly is to give experience to new players and try new ideas. Picking the same names over and over is an exercise in futility. England will never progress. Southgate's success is in spite of himself.

The only surprise here in Southgate terms is him not bringing in Sterling back, would've thought the slightest hint of form would be enough there (was also surprised by no Mount until saw he's injured)

there is really no justification to pick Henderson after his retirement move and Phillips when he's not started a serious club game for over a year. We don't have great depth of options in DM/CM currently but surely, Ward-Prowse is much more justifiable. or you could look at someone like Curtis Jones.

Picks players that will stroke his ego as well as various other areas.

Cannot stand the word removed!

Maguire is his new Coady - just a great cheerleader for Gareth in the dressing room

Exactly. It's also why England struggles to find anyone who can consistently score apart from Kane. What was he ever going to learn from picking Kane for the Malta game? Bit part roles for other strikers is stifling their development of being a striker for England.

It's also laughable that Conor Gallagher continues to get picked too.

Couldn't get a look in when on fire on loan at Palace. Starts for Chelsea and puts in turgid performances and get's picked regularly by the utter turd of a manager.

So he was happy to take a principled stance going into the Qatar World Cup (until he didn’t) but now he’s completely bemused and bewildered as to why people might ask questions about players earning through the Saudi regime.

I think the main issue is that Henderson’s best days are well behind him. Hogging a place in the squad makes no sense.
