Gun violence in the USA

Hard to describe how hopeless it is to expect anything to ever happen. Republicans can just gleefully use guns as a vote and act forlornly with every increasingly shitty mass shooting.

As long as Americans value guns more than people, this is true.

Living those Christian values.

Gun shop owner Daniel Brooks says that after the fatal mass shooting in Lewiston he saw a sharp increase in gun purchases.

There’s no hope for them

Then before the game we stand to welcome and thank the service men and women who have served in the US military and the military’s of the US allies.

Then we are drawn to the 10 flags around the stadium which represent the 10 US citizens being held by Hamas.

Then we spend a moment of quiet reflection following the deadly shooting in Maine

Then, of course, the national anthem.

From the MLS thread

You'd do well to convince me that these things aren't linked and part of the reason why they have these mass shootings

The military are heroes + the world is full of enemies + America **** yeah = nutters thinking they're heroes doing their country a favour

Its ingrained in their lives

The fetishization of the military, guns, survivalist/tactical gear and clothing, macho trucks etc. is a big problem here. There is a demographic here that has become radicalized by 30 years of right wing propaganda and gun deregulation. It might be an unpopular opinion, but I also think video games like Call of Duty have been a factor in this phenomenon.

A big reason why I've gravitated away from American sports over the years is because of the almost pornographic public displays of jingoism after Sept 11 2001 at stadia. It was unbearable.

I think the 2ns amendment should be seen as a product of its time, which is I think like 1790. You can have any gun you like to defend against some British attempt to reconquer America, so long as it was made on or before the ratification of the 2nd amendment. Leave the modern weapons to the army/police.

Vermont: Three Palestinian students shot near US campus

The families of three Palestinian students shot in Vermont on Saturday have urged police to investigate the attack as a hate crime.

Hisham Awartani, Tahseen Ahmed and Kinnan Abdalhamid were confronted and shot by a man near University of Vermont Campus, Burlington Police said.

Officers are investigating a possible motive, but said they were wearing keffiyeh - a traditional scarf - and speaking Arabic when attacked.

Police are searching for the suspect.

Burlington police chief Jon Mura said two victims are in a stable condition; the third has suffered much more serious injuries.

Two teenage brothers have been arrested after their sister was shot and died during a row over Christmas presents.

The 23-year-old was shot in the chest by her teenage brother while she had her 10-month-old son in a carrier, the Florida sheriff's office said.

The boy was then shot by his older brother who took out his own gun, Pinellas County Sheriff's Office said.

It added that the shooting followed an argument over who was getting more presents.

You almost have to laugh at this point. The news anchor covering this was praising the crowd literally 10 seconds before the camera pans to someone on a stretcher. It would be funny if people weren't dying from this shit.

You can go back an hour or so and see it yourself.
