Good to see that Dominic Raab has recognised the threat to democracy in the world today....presumably in a mirror.

Democracy is "in retreat", the foreign secretary will warn as he sets out his vision for the UK's role in the world.

Dominic Raab will use a speech to argue that democracies face their greatest threat since the end of the Cold War.

"Think about what that means for a second," he will say.

"Tyranny is richer than freedom, and that matters to us here at home.

"Because stable, freedom-respecting democracies are much less likely to go to war, house terrorists or trigger large scale flows of migrants and they are generally, not always, but generally easier to trade with, and easier to cooperate with to solve our shared problems."

"Never mind any tyranny-ing they might be doing, they're going to have more money than us - that's a serious situation!"

How does he get through this without laughing?

So... Boris worried about state cyber crime. After thinking very hard about the best way to combat cyber warfare, he has concluded that we need... more nuclear weapons.

I mean, obviously. Because the 180 nuclear weapons we currently possess have been a fantastic defence against computer hacking recently.

Amusingly, the (last?) time we tested the system in 2017, it didn't even work. Then again, given that one quite plausible of 'success' in operation would be to eliminate all life on Earth, perhaps being an expensive failure that nevertheless keeps the gammon's dicks hard is a best-case scenario.

Nevermind, the UK will nuke things back into proper order.

Britain is lifting the cap on the number of Trident nuclear warheads it can stockpile by more than 40%, Boris Johnson will announce on Tuesday, ending 30 years of gradual disarmament since the collapse of the Soviet Union.

Dominic Cummings blasts Matt Hancock’s department as a ‘smoking ruin’ at height of Covid crisis

Former adviser says vaccine programme has only been succesful because department of health wasn’t put in charge

The department of health was a "smoking ruin" while trying to run key parts of the response to the Covid-19 outbreak, Dominic Cummings has said.

Boris Johnson's former chief adviser told MPs on Wednesday that the vaccination programme had only succeeded because it was taken away from Matt Hancock's department.

Citing the ministry's attempts to procure protective equipment for NHS workers Mr Cummings said it had been a deliberate decision to split off the programme – which has been widely seen as successful.

Speaking at the Commons Science and Technology Committee on Wednesday, the former chief of staff said he and Patrick Vallance had argued the programme needed to be split off from DHSC.

"It is not coincidental that we had to take it out of the Department of Health. We had to have it authorised very directly by the Prime Minister," he said.

"In spring 2020 you had a situation where the Department of Health was just a smoking ruin in terms of procurement and PPE and all of that. You had serious problems with the funding bureaucracy for therapeutics.

We also had the EU proposal which looked like an absolute guaranteed programme to fail - a debacle.

"Therefore Patrick Vallance, the Cabinet Secretary, me and some others said 'obviously we should take this out of the Department of Health, obviously we should create a separate taskforce and obviously we have to empower that taskforce directly with the authority of the Prime Minister.'"

Mr Cummings added that there was a need for “a very, very hard look” at what went wrong and why.

The UK's vaccination programme is ahead of most of Europe and one of the most advanced in the world in terms of the number of people to have been given a single dose

Meanwhile PPE and other government procurement around the Covid crisis has been dogged with allegations of inefficiency, waste, and cronyism.

Mr Cummings quit the government in November as part of row over influence in No.10. He was called the committee on Wednesday to discuss his proposals for a British state-directed scientific agency.

Downing Street defended the response of the Department of Health and Social Care to the coronavirus pandemic after Cummings’ comments.

Speaking in Westminste ron Wednesday afternoon, the Prime Minister’s official spokesman said: “Covid challenged health systems around the world. From the outset, it was always our focus to protect the NHS and save lives.

People protesting to protect their right to protest. I bet Patel didn’t think this would happen when tightening rules around rights to protest.

AIM: Reduce protests

Result: More protests

Its a good job she’s such a popular member of staff.

If you have a couple of minutes to spare, please watch the video and if you want to support, please click on links and email your MP with the template. It takes 10 seconds.

There is a vote in the HoC on Monday to add the McPartland-Smith amendment to the Fire Safety Bill, which will protect leaseholders from ruinous costs due to shoddy building of flats. The initial bill passed without debating the amendment but was defeated by the Lords and sent back to the Commons to vote on the amendment.

All opposition MPs will be supporting the amendment I believe, and a small number of tories as well, but every vote counts. This could save the financial future of hundreds of thousands of leaseholders

An example of the sort of bills that are landing on leaseholders now, due to poor quality and dangerous flats that were built.

A bill of £79k, payable in 30 days.

The Conservatives are just turning a blind eye to this as the big house-builders, who built death trap flats, happen to be donors to the party. They'd rather people went bankrupt than actually forcing the builders to remediate their own shoddy work.

@XelaI have filled in the form emailing local MP.

I'd imagine this is impacting a lot of traditional Tory voters who probably never realised the Tories callousness would go quite so far up the food chain as them in favour of protecting big business/their donors.

The end result will be riot's in multiple cities if she isn't careful,  maybe that's the aim after all to get more powers?

She's a bit mad.

I fear she might be a bit more intelligent than people think.  She is getting the public to do exactly what she wants.

Circus Ringmaster Cartoon Png, Transparent Png - kindpng

More riots = more powers,  more injured Police / Police Assets = more powers eventually.

I think she is loving this and all I can say is

It's a Trap!" at the Cross-Section of Memes, Parody, and Fandom Legacy
