dont_do_it_doug.
I don't know if I would say coup, but it would be a good thing. He's a good player. Definitely not as good as Kante though. #MiddleGround
Popular Post markavfc40
I think assessing some of the new players last season is tough as all-round the squad performed absolutely terribly. Whether they were a reason for that or they just got dragged down by the crap around them is hard to say. I think Gana and Veretout coming into a midfield that had just lost Delph and Cleverley was hard for them. We needed them both to hit the ground running and make an instant impact and put simply they didn’t. It was expected it would take them a while to get up to speed and by the time they did, if they actually did, then we were in all sorts of shit and had a whole squad playing with zero confidence and a lack of desire. I think the likes of Gana, Veretout, Ayew, Amavi, Traore have to be cut a fair amount of slack and not judged simply on last season. Unlike Lescott and Richards they had zero experience in Prem league and were also new to this country. They actually needed the more experienced lads to step forward and lead by example and all our experienced players failed them in that. If they do stay though there can be no ifs or buts this season. They have to sh*t or get off the pot. There is now no excuse that they are new to the country etc. I’d expect all the foreign lads that signed last season to hit the ground running and would judge them accordingly. sexbelowsound
2 minutes ago, bobzy said: You asked what the benefit was. Yes, I think the 'benefit' isn't actually a benefit. If he does well for them they will most likely buy him which means we don't get a better player at the end. Now if the buy option is more, or at least what we paid for him then we've essentially broken even. Again, not a benefit. Isa
Loaning him out only holds value without an option to buy included.

If they're saying we loan him with a £12m option at the end, whilst the best we can get for him on the open market is £8m, it theoretically works out better for us. Maybe nobody wants to buy him and this is our opportunity to put him in the window. Maybe it's all a load of bollocks. If there was no benefit to the loan with an option to buy no club would explore it. Yet they happen often.
dont_do_it_doug.
I hope we keep him. I think he's decent. Had his bad times last season but generally kept his head.

AntrimBlack
Either buy him or get lost. It is not as if he is superfluous to our squad, he was one of our better players last season, and could be very important for us this season..

His market value at a relegated club can only improve by playing in a CL team for a year. Worst case he doesn't play and his value stays the same (minus wages) eg. £6m now or up to £12m next year. We're not short of cash now so no rush to get rid of.
