How long did it take Benteke to score after being sent off against Spurs last season?

Liverpool paid only 16 million for him and with his stock being low we could get him for a good price.

We have played the safe option for far too long, I would say we are in the position where we take a gamble if the price is right.

Only £16m?! That's a shed-load for a player they were already taking a gamble on and he showed nothing in terms of ability or even effort to even try and repay that faith in their gamble. Benteke had a poor run of form after a bad injury, Balotelli has had a huge run of bad form because of the amount of effort he puts in. He's quite simply a waste of potential. He only had a half decent record at City because they created so many chances. I'd rather have Borini to be honest! (I don't want Borini, just demonstrating how shocking Mario has become). His career was on a massive slide and a club as big as Liverpool gave him a final chance to show he still had something but he just simply doesn't care. He'd get the ball, lose it easily and show zero lack of desire to rectify this, he'd stand there with his hands on his hips instead of closing down. That's nothing to do with feeling loved or an arm around his shoulder, that's straight up laziness and other players having to carry him.

Isn't that the case with Berbatov though? Although admittedly Berbatov pulls it out the bag more often than not. But if we were to sign him there would undoubtedly be a lot of games where players would be carrying him, mostly due to his lack of closing down. I highly rate him but I couldn't count how many times I've seen him with his hands on his hips.

Yeah, absolutely but Berbatov wouldn't be expecting the same sort of wages or fees as Balotelli though. I'm not completely sold on Berbatov but at least he offers some decent link up play. Balotelli showed pretty much nothing last season. I don't like Liverpool and am happy to see them struggle and lose but watching Mario actually took a gloss off it he was that painful to watch.

Berbatov is 34, his time has gone.

As for a huge run of bad form he only played 10 league games for them, Rogers is not the great manager he thinks he is and couldn't work him into the team.

The season before he scored 19 goals for AC Milan. Season before that 20 goals.

I'm sorry but what a complete load of bollocks these two statements are. He is obviously a very talented player and he showed that at City, the goals weren't just placed at his feet as you seem to be suggesting. Also he scored 26 goals in 43 appearances for Milan, hardly a career on a massive slide.

Yes he has a bad attitude that is clear to see but there is no reason why he won't be able to do it again at another club, like he has at every other club he's been at aside from Liverpool. Rogers needs to take a fair portion of the blame for not finding a way to utilise him IMO; it seems strikers either fit in with his strategy and are excellent like Suarez and Sturridge or they don't and they are completely ineffectual like Lambert and Balotelli.

Suarez is such an exceptional player he made it work.

Lambert was a strange buy as well and not given a chance.

Sturbridge looked good next to Suarez but been injured too much to see if he can maintain that form.

Mario has also shown playing for Italy he can be brilliant but he mentally is a big kid who plays up to get attention but at Liverpool he looks totally demoralised.

I said at City they created/create so many chances, I didn't say they were placed at his feet. I don't think it's wrong to say he scored as many as he did because he was surrounded by a wealth of talent. His record at Milan was good but that's in a league far different to the Premier League, the pace of the Premier League is on another level to the Italian league. I was wrong to say his career was on a massive slide but his rep in England wasn't too hot after his displays before leaving City, people were calling him a gamble even after a good scoring ration for Milan and so it's proved. I could see him going to Italy again and being fine but I don't think he has the work ethic or attitude to do it over here in a team where he's not surrounded by players creating plenty of chances (that doesn't mean tap-ins) or where other players aren't able to help make up for his lack of effort. I'd be happy for him to prove me wrong but from day 1 at Liverpool he seemed a liability and like playing with 10 men.

Seems a bit redundant talking about Berbatov and Balotelli - I'd say it's massively unlikely that we'll be signing either of them.

Adama Traore has been linked though, which is interesting. Anyone seen him?

Some a##hole on talksport yesterday lunchtime spoke about villas transfer so far.

He mentioned how villa fans can expect to have a worst season coming up than last season due to losing our leading goalscorer, our captain and our best defender, i dont think he realized how much of a sicknote Vlaar was.

Then he went on about how Richards was crazy for coming to us instead on Inter and why would Berbatov want to come to us as well making out like it would be a bad decision.

Gone quiet in here. Now only sceptical links, apparently no CB, a dragged out Adebayor / Berba signing.

Everyone out!

The moose said something similar on Talkshite.

He is a delusional hammers fan, who knows very little about our club or in fact football.

Mario is bad news for any club. He cost liverpool top 4 last season.

What's not to like about that?  ;)

Super player at his best but he just does not want to be bothered to be at his best often enough. If Tim could get him playing consistently over the course of a season it would be a great signing and he would have proved he is a miracle worker beyond doubt but I suspect Mario would not consider coming to us in any case.

Or it could be so toxic to the dressing room and squad that we get relegated. Avoid like the plague.

Spanish paper saying we have beaten Liverpool, Stoke and West Ham to the signing of Adama.

http://sportwitness.ning.com/forum/topics/aston-villa-beat-liverpool-west-ham-and-stoke-to-mega-signing

The source is Marca mate. Even less reliable than a Pat Murphy story.

Hope its true though :)

I would consider a cheeky bud to get Mario B from Liverpool. Timmy might just be able to get him to play.

A front line of Mario, Ade and Berba is sure to scare a defense, three nutters coming at them ;)

Havnt you already caused us enough damage Mr Rodgers?
