They're a good band, probably my favourite "new" band, they're a throw back (because oz is 25 years behind us...) lead singer has a great voice, the mtv unplugged album is brilliant, been around for about 5 years now and have a good following but never made a big breakthrough, not a clue if they get radio support or not, they'll sell out O2 academies easily and get good support slots when courteeners or Liam plays to 60k people*, there's nothing exciting or different or anything edgy about them so I think they get lost in the crowd which is a shame * courteeners playing to 60k crowds is one of life's greatest mysteries
Seat68
Re The Bee Gees. I like them, I think they are phenomenal songwriters but this from the 2m55s mark is the vocal equivalent of the emperors new clothes. Its gash. The song is good mind.

I'm a fan of a good number of current Aussie acts, it's a scene I'm very aware of. Courtney Barnett, Pond, Psychedelic Porn Crumpets, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard and a good few more besides. The Australian music scene is not 25 years behind us, it is very much of the moment Still hadn't heard of the DNAs until today

cyrusr Posted May 12, 2021 VT Supporter Share Posted May 12, 2021 What I don't get, is how people can suggest Coldplay is "music". There is a stronger argument that fish and gravy is a tasty and delicious combination.

At least Ed Sheeran has sold millions of records and has a string of radio hits (not that I could really hum you any of them), I should be The Courteeners prime audience and I couldn't name a song of theirs. 60k gigs for them is pretty staggering.

They filled the Oasis/Kasabian hole and to be fair Liam Fray has an ear for a tune and writes pretty good lyrics.

I saw them support Babyshambles, then headline the Apollo. They were good, but I have no idea how they fill stadiums off so little publicity, no hits to speak of. But Ed Sheeran selling out Wembley Stadium still staggers me beyond belief. I've just had a thought about this. And you not having heard of the Courteeners (and me the DMAs) is because music exists in totally different and separate sphere's, much more than it ever did before. In the '80s and the '90s there were still a smallish number of radio stations and whilst everyone listened to their particular choice, you knew about lots more types of music than you own particular taste because there was a weekly music press and it all sort of got tied up in the NME or your publication of choice. Music press is now monthly magazines and IF we read them, we stick to the one's more in tune with our tastes. The Music scene in general is probably more varied than it's every been but at the same time its much harder to have your finger on the pulse of everything. We limit ourselves to our bubbles because otherwise its just too much information. The internet hasn't helped the punter in this regard either. These bubbles can be targeted much more specifically too, especially in the internet age. The internet probably knows I won't like the DNAs so doesn't bother pushing me in their direction, it knows I have too much taste for that but these gullible younger fools will lap it up. I find as a punter it is increasingly harder to look out for new acts that I'll like and try. The one's I've already made a connection with will always be there and tools like spotify will suggest others but Spotify is actually mutating in a direction that irritates me in this regard (and others) Anyway.... TL:DR we aren't meant to know about these acts

I suffered enough of it to reach a point where I spotted a Burberry baseball cap Definitely an Oasis tribute band and that's from listening in a pair of buggered headphones at work. Wainy316
Courteeners have that whole cringey arrogant Manc swagger about them that we have Liam G to thank for. 1
