You would need to look through the Hubble telescope to see an Oasis similarity .

How lazy and depressing.

I had a listen. I think you've both got a point. The general style of song is definitely in the Oasis ballpark. But it's softer, the singer's voice is a lot gentler and less whiny than Liam's. It's probably his clothes and shambling movement that suggests a likeness.

I don't dislike it. I mean, I won't care if I never hear it again, but it's not unpleasant. Radio Two wallpaper, really.

Courteeners have that whole cringey arrogant Manc swagger about them that we have Liam G to thank for.

Perry returns from Manchester, erm ... just slightly influenced - hilarious comedy video clip - BBC comedy on Make a GIF

Really ?

They have more of a 6th form tortured poet vibe than any arrogance you'd see from a Gallagher.

Must be National Lazy Uninformed Opinion Day I guess.

Apart from both bands being made up of electrons and quarks I see zero similarities.

I can understand people liking what they like but it's the lazy dismissive nonsense that bugs me  (Not you per se as getting you to like a Beck song is one of VT's finer moments)

I've forgotten that Beck album already, as I will the DMAs track. Both filed under "Not totally shit, but no need to investigate further".

Wasn't there a band called Athlete who sounded exactly like Coldplay?

As if having a crap name wasn't bad enough.

There was. Wires was a decent song IMO.

Crap band name though, I agree.

Bee gees for me currently, watched the hbo documentary and loved it, going through their early stuff, flirting with the disco stuff and one or two songs from the 80s

Bee Gees are ace.

Beyond the Manc thing I don't really see it either, he's got the same thing as kasabians Tom where he's trying to be a front man with a bit about him (but he's not as bad as Tom, and by bad I mean coked up confident) and you can say that both of them in that regard are influenced by Liam

But musically they're not

Never stopped loving them. So I am cool again right?

I liked ABBA in the late 70's but then my elder Brother started to try and embarrass me by telling them that I liked ABBA.  I didn't even know this was something to be embarrassed about, but then I spent the next 15 years saying ABBA were shit until I was old enough to not not care what anyone thought of my taste in music, and by that time it was cool to like them again anyway.

I'm a fan of a good number of current Aussie acts, it's a scene I'm very aware of. Courtney Barnett, Pond, Psychedelic Porn Crumpets, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard and a good few more besides. The Australian music scene is not 25 years behind us, it is very much of the moment

Still hadn't heard of the DNAs until today

My brother is a drummer in an Oi Oi Punk Band (called Rotunda if anyone is interested) and he went nuts about this Aussie Punk Band a couple of years ago after this went viral.

Aren’t the Corteeners basically big in Manchester.

So are Alphaville.   Oh no, sorry.  They are Big In Japan.

Yeah I didn’t mean musically particularly.  Both Kasabian Tom and Liam Fray are very much influence by and big fans of Oassi though.

You should listen to Rotunda, that could almost be them.

In fact the lead singer is a MASSIVE Villa fan, he might lurk around these pages.

They are Big In Japan.

NO! Big In Japan were a legendary Liverpool band of the Eric's era. Bands with members before they were famous don't come more legendary than Big In Japan. Members of BIJ were

Jane Casey (Pink Military / Industry, also a well known Liverpool "creative", former Director of the now defunct Ferstival of Comedy and also employed behind the scenes at Cream during its peak)

Bill Drummond (KLF and former manager of Bunnymen / Teardrop Explodes)

Holly Johnson (Frankie frontman)

Budgie (Formerly of the Spitfire Boys, laterly a Banshee and half of The Creatures but also in The Slits)

Cliver Langer (huge record producer, look him up, also co-wrote Shipbuilding with Elvis Costello)

Dave Balfe (Dalek I Love You, Teardrop Explodes and half of Food Records, also Zoo Records with Drummond in this era, persuaded Blur to change their name from Seymour and is the inspiration behind Country House)

Ambrose Reynolds (Again Pink Industry then Urban Strawberry Lunch - ran the famous Liverpool Landmark The Bombed Out CHurch until forced out just before the Pandemic by words removed the council forced upon him - lovely bloke and another reason to hate the Liverpool Council)

Legendary unheard of bands don't come bigger than Big In Japan, every member went on to become much more well known
