Cheers @Midfielder appreciate the response. I got the offer!! So, now have a hell of a decision to make. I'm quite loyal, and hate letting people down, which is what I feel l will be doing should I decide to jump ship. I'm not very good with change, and worry about being on a probation period just in case they decide I am crap and don't want to keep me. No idea what to do now...  the new role only has 1 bloke doing the IT for a growing business, so I'd be the first on in to help with the support of it all...

Much like the meme - this job would be more face to face rather than remote, which is a good thing!

Cheers @TrentVilla as well!

Tayls well done Sir. I can't make that decision but you'll decide what is right. Reading again your original post, if I were you in that circumstance I think I would be handing my notice in tomorrow. But that's just me.

Understandable and I totally get what you're saying about loyalty, however you make your own luck in life (in the main) and this could all be very positive. The change that is, furthermore don't self doubt as clearly you aced the interview and they want you so you've got a lot going for you and this other place recognises it.

You sit now thinking what if this what if that. Weigh it up all bud. The decision is yours. Many pros, minor con(s). Don't feel guilty in anyway if you leave your job, they lost you, the guilt is on them if so.

Decided today to find a new job, not sure if within the same company or not.

Place I currently work has gone down hill ridiculously fast with a change of our director and the other all director.

Loads of changes which just simply don't add up to what they say it's supposed to achieve.

Ahhh the new boss who wants to put his mark on the department by changing things that don't need changing. He'll have moved on in two years and his replacement will change things back to how they were, but claim its a great new idea.

I've seen these clowns come and go at my place over the years.

That's it mate, it's worse though because both him and the top man are new and tearing it up. Morale is through the floor and these guys are REALLY untrustworthy having recently fired several senior managers.

So, I decided to make my boss aware that I had an offer, but that I had absolutely no idea what to do and what path I want to go down for the rest of my career... mentioned that my motivation for looking was the current insecurities that we had in the company. Got a meeting with him tomorrow and one of the directors.

Anyone got any ideas of how I can stand my ground here and get a good outcome for myself? Hah! Worried they will just turn around and tell me to jog on...

That was a mistake, IMO. The first a company should know of your other offer is you handing your notice in.

Openly and honestly discussing your career progression and revealing an external offer might sound good - you're being fair and not just ditching them, right? But who do you think gets the most interesting work, and gets favoured for promotion, the guy that kept their mouth shut, or the one who the boss already knows has had his head turned in the past?

I'm sure there are some occasions that it's worked out for people, but I'd be out the door pretty quickly if a company knew I'd been interviewing elsewhere.

It can be a mixed bag. In the past I've taken job offers to my manager as an ultimatum and as a result I got pay rises. But equally, they could tell you to piss off. One thing to be aware of is how they might treat you even if it does go 'well'.

So it was a good meeting. They understood what I was concerned about with the current goings-on that we have. They outlined the plans going forward, what other areas I can be exposed to. Stated clearly that they did not want me to leave....

I think I do need to stay where I am. I'm not sure if moving to a company with only 1 IT person doing the internal support will be the way to go. I think applications etc is the strongest route at the minute - esecially with learning Dynamics now.

Really great interview, Rob. Very inspiring.

In other news, I had an interview this morning for a promotion within my own company. Boss has already told me I've got it. Time to celebrate.

Great work, mate.  Congrats!

I've been published in an interview for Talent Lab, a company based in Vancouver who specialise in leadership, recruitment and people development.  They asked me some questions about the most important moments in my life and my career.

Might be an interesting read.  I've tried to be open and honest.  I talk about good advice I've received, trying to balance work and parenthood, and my battle with depression and anxiety.

Warning to those of you who already know me fairly well - that Pelé story is in there again...

That's a great read.

I really wish I had the drive and ambition you have in your career, I've got nothing!

Great stuff mate. :)

I sometimes wish I had taken more risks with my career like you have. Must make the success you have even sweeter.

FFS, not the bloody Pele story again!

(I love the Pele story.  And the one about being shot at after designing a strip for the African Cup of Nations)

My manager just got promoted, and I've been told her role is mine. Will transition into the role over the next 2/3 months from a supervisory position into managing 20 people. A fun step up, excited!

Some movement on this. Been 2 and a half months since this, and I've been taking more on as the time has gone on.

Now I need a final interview with my boss and her two equivalents for other areas; all being well I'll have the job by the middle of July, straight into a 2 week holiday, then back from holiday into management :)

I've just been offered a new job at another company having had my head turned by a recruiter via LinkedIn.

I currently work for a large multi-national with 55k globally with US headquarters. I have 4 layers of management above me and lack the autonomy to make significant changes and by the the time any ideas / strategies are executed they've been filtered down so much it's what was initially positioned.

I've only been in my current role for 12 months but the new role is offered a £5k pay rise plus a substanial car allowance or a company car (I don't currently have a car). The new role would report directly the People Director who sits of the Board of Directors and I'd be responsible for the whole strategy etc. The role being offered is in a large construction company (4,000 employees).

In my currently role I am about to embark on a large transformation project in the UK, India and Hong Kong which would give me great exposure but post the project (18 months) i don't quite know where I could end up.

Any suggestions or tips to consider in helping me make my mind up?
