hogso
You can look at the actual advert here if you want Head of Cyber Security - Civil Service Jobs - GOV.UK It reads like a pretty run of the mill G7 role tbh. I wouldn't want to work in the civil service even with salary parity, and they're nowhere close for most technical roles. Probably why most public sector tech is absolutely appalling, with a few notable exceptions.

I know plenty of basic Security Analysts/Auditors based in the regions on more than what the Treasury is offering.
Popular Post A'Villan
Signed for another season of semi-professional basketball just yesterday. While it's a way off yet, I'm eyeing off the Leicester Riders. I've been told I could make England's top tier, and have a few associates who have played over there. If it were to happen, best they schedule fixtures so they don't conflict with Villa. Because if I'm able to get down to Villa Park, I know where I'll be.
Genie
The powers that at my place have definitely changed the setting in Teams which makes the status icon appear idle/amber. It’s about 12 seconds now.

It was a ballache to log back in.....then I heard about "keep alive" powershell scripts that prevents that happening AND turning your Teams status from green to amber. Just do a Google search on it and there's always some nerd willing to share their geeky knowledge. Works a dream for me. Sorry if I am preaching to the converted but one click on the script sat on my desktop and I'm all set. It was something I wasn't aware of. I might invest in one of these.
Davkaus
Are you actually judged if you're amber for a bit or is this just a proactive worried about perception thing? I'm quite happy I work in a team where it's quite acceptable to just say "stuck on a problem, going to go for a walk and have a think". I have a big whiteboard in my home office I use to map out ideas and designs as well, so people are quite used to me not being green but still working, I'd hate to feel so micromanaged I need to give a shit about my teams status
cheltenham_villa
In my experience, these things are only ever used/referenced when people already feel like individuals are not contributing. If a perception exists that youre not working, taking time away, id expect this to become a future metric that gets looked at. As others have said, i wont work in an environment where this is used. Popular Post UpTheVilla26
I applied for a job I saw advertised, with a really good company and one which I think I'd be a great fit for. Anyway, yesterday had the Teams Interview. Both the chaps interviewing me were absolutely sound. Part of the interview was a 5 min 'Teach Me' presentation. I'd prepared a slideshow, with a bit of stuff about Villa, history, records, etc... Get to the part where I need to share my screen and my laptop throws a massive wobbly. Totally freezes. I can't do anything. They were brilliant about it and said no rush, do you want to restart your laptop and log back in. So, turn off laptop, switch on, bloody windows updates, then it starts saying its performing a 'clean up'. By this time, I'd been out the call for about 10 mins and I'm proper frustrated and getting a bit worked up. Had to rejoin on my phone, explain my what my laptop was doing and recompose myself. We eventually got to the teach me part. I told them my laptop wasn't letting me on teams but I managed to load up the slideshow, so had to face my phone camera at the laptop. I didn't know if they were into footy, if they supported a team, but I wanted to do a teach me on something I'm massively passionate about. Only turns out, the Area Manager is a huge Villa fan as well!! When I loaded it up I could see them both react, 1 shaking his head, the other delighted. Glad it ended on a shared interest and high point. We ended up chatting about Villa for a good 10mins after the slideshow. The worst thing is, I did a test run earlier in the week and it worked perfect. Bloody laptop, though we seldom use it anymore due to tablets/phones etc... but for a teams meeting like that, it's the best thing to use. Fingers crossed my technical blip hasn't affected my chances, had a really good vibe about the company and people. Demitri_C
Just reading zoom are the latest company to try get people back in the office and slowly reduce remote working In my role now too they slowly getting us going in more. We are no longer patient facing in fact we don't liaise with patients at all now. Our role can work 100% remote as we work from spreadsheets. Question is why are employers getting people back in? I mean coming in once or twice a week at most people can leave with but having it like it was pre covid? Why? People work better at home and it saves companies money. Just do not undertstand it tbh Edited August 7, 2023 by Demitri_C
