AVTuco Posted September 14, 2014 VT Supporter Share Posted September 14, 2014 If we win against Liverpool, this thread will take a dull, serious tone. Believe.. Haha, I just opened this thread for the first time. Started reading and only after three pages noticed that it was actually started last year! Brilliant. The post above got me slightly worried though.

Butterfingers
And if we get just 1 point out of those 3, it will be a better start than last season

We had already lost 5 games at that point (to Newcastle, Spurs, Chelsea, Liverpool and Everton). We had wins over Cardiff, Norwich and Arsenal. A draw with Hull. We'd already lost Okore for the season at this point. Benteke had injury problems. We scored 9 and conceded 12 at this point last season. We've already kept 3 clean sheets out of 4 this season. If we lose the next three games, it's still big progress when compared to last season.
Butterfingers
In fairness, looking at the 1st 7 fixtures last season, it was wins against Arsenal, Man City & Norwich. We also played Chelsea & Liverpool within those 7 games so it was anything but an easy start. The difference this time around is that we won't go on the poor runs that we had last season-I'm confident that the group of players we have will bounce back from defeats and also have the steel to grind out more results like yesterdays. We also have what looks like a good run in so provided the team stays focused, we could finish very strongly as well.
ArteSuave
Our good start last season was down to having forwards in good form and just outscoring teams. This season we've shut teams out which is a far more sustainable method. For all our wins against the top 4 (or our title rivals if you prefer) last season we only kept one clean sheet against them in the 8 games. We've already got one this season. sexbelowsound
Imagine what it will be like when we get Kozak and Benteke back. Not only will we be able to shut teams down like we've shown but we'll also have either that big target man who can hold up play or that big target man who can make a goal scoring chance out of nothing. The issue may still be breaking down teams that come to Villa Park who will try to do to us what we did to Liverpool. That's when we'll see how just how good this squad is. romavillan Posted September 14, 2014 VT Supporter Share Posted September 14, 2014 If we don't beat the gunners it makes the Chelsea game a must win really, which won't be easy at their place. A massive club like ourselves needs to be winning these fixtures, or Lambert out!

United will also beat us by a combined score of 18-0 so don't fancy us to win it on goal difference, need to be a point clear going into the last day. We have 3 wins and a draw from our first 4 league games Imarsha_926. As a note of optimism the last time we were champions back in 80-81 we also had 3 wins and a draw from our first 4 league games. We lost 2 of the next 3 games and won the third so one win from the next 3 games will give us the same start we had when we last won the league.
