pacbuddies
Do we need a poll for people who want him to stay or people who want him to go? Any poll must include those who want him to stay to honour his contract even if he spends the next 3 years rotting in the reserves.
becks1876
The thing that will eventually kill the premier league as a competition completely is when, like in Spain, the top clubs negotiate their own tv deals rather than having a centralised revenue sharing contract. It is bound to happen eventually, there are just too many muppets who want to watch Man U every week and don't care about the rest of the league. Going way off topic, but I'd honestly say it won't be long until a European league is in place. Th "big clubs" can then go and play each other other week, with us so called smaller clubs left behind to scrap for a poorer English league without all the glory supporters. Bringing back on topic, why are people saying Spurs favourites to sign him? Have any bids come in? How far away is this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5gYQHhtlN2A Teleportation is not an option at the moment.

Inclined to agree. It's not just the Pem League all over Europe the leagues are dominated by a few teams who are miles ahead of the rest. They already have their elite European league, they also have their bread and butter domestic competition. They have the best of both worlds, why would they ever want that to change? AstonMartin82
I just love the fact that his last act in a Villa shirt will be assaulting John Terry. You can't sign off in better fashion IMO.

His last act in a Villa shirt was probably when he modeled the new kit with Weimann and Guzan on the OS!

pacbuddies
If he signs for Arsenal will he be banned or are red cards from last season not carried over? Was it just a one game ban? PaulC
Was it a straight red? Or a 2nd yellow, if the later it will only be one match
Intercourse_The_Penguin
It was a second yellow iirc. And whilst it's not the most important issue (far from), it would a very small comfort if he goes to Arse to know we won't have to see him line up against us for the first game of the season. The_Steve
If Benteke joins Chelsea, cue conspiracy theories that his last act was getting himself sent-off and contributing towards our defeat.

One match ban. Served the Ban during the Wigan game.

Morpheus
Mantis what are you on? I mean where have i stated that we should 'get inferior players just so they won't perform really well and then leave after a good season or two?' We can also sign good experienced players as a base in which we can then build our youth around. We did it too much under O'Neil and not enough under Lambert so we have never really had a decent balance between both and if we continue to base our transfer policy on mainly youth then due to our present standing in football at the moment if those youthful players progress then they will be off in the same way as Benteke. I have no doubt that if Lowton and Westwood have another good season then they will be cherry picked too so the vicious circle continues of buying and selling while we stagnate because we simply can't offer even the glimmer of european football at the moment. Thats what i meant by 'rich financially and poor on success.' Thing is, if a player comes in and performs like Benteke did last season then you will always have bigger clubs after him. I think you're misinterpreting Lambert's approach. It isn't about deliberately buying prospects with the intention of selling them on at a higher price in the future. Clearly the club would prefer to keep Benteke. ........................Christain Bentekke walks into a bar.......... ...has one drink and walks straight back out again No i'm not misinterpreting Lambert's approach at all and i know he wants to build something here but its the economics of the situation we are in. Team who have over the last three seasons flirted with relegation. Club chairman who is more interested in wage structure than the investment needed to push us on. (Lack of investment in January very nearly rebounded on us). Lack of investment could also be construed as lack of ambition by players and agents alike. Manager trying to restructure the club on a limited budget with youthful inexperience which could also be seen by players and agents as trying to do the impossible in a league run and based on investment which equates to continual lack of success. Which equates to players continually wanting to leave and not giving us the chance to build a team which has enough quality to challenge for the success that will actually keep the quality players at the club.
Adamus
Given his bellend of an agent and track record of loyalty I hope Villa are savvy enough to negotiate a good sell on clause for Benteke
Condimentalist
Do we need a poll for people who want him to stay or people who want him to go? Would anyone want a player, who has lumped in a transfer request, to stay at the club?? I wouldn't and I am sure Lambert, deep down, won't want that in the dressing room. Because he is so good and would make a big difference to our abilities next season, and as such our abilities to kick on beyond that, yes. With Benteke I think we're looking at top half next season. Without him it could well be another season of struggle. He's obviously trying to force through a move and whilst I've lost a lot of respect for the way he's gone about it, I can't see him kicking up a stink with the WC coming up next season. He's obviously more likely to go but I would strongly prefer him to stay another year, transfer request or not.
