Great post! Agree with almost every word and...er...symbol!

I'm not gonna sit here and get all stressed wether Benteke is going to stay or not, I've had enough stress during the season.

Just chill and relax and have a few weeks off.

I'm actually quite confident that Lambert will be backed by Lerner as much as Lambert requires. Lambert has openly stated many a time that he's looking for young, hungry talent.

Players like Lowton, Westwood and obviously Benteke have quadrupled in value, whilst we'd probably get back the money we've paid for KEA, Vlaar and Bowery if we were to sell them. This is worlds part from the Sidwell's, Reo Coker's, Harewood's and Heskey's of this world.

From a purely business perspective, it makes sense for Lerner to back Lambert as his purchases will make us more successful as a club or, in at the very least, make RL more money if the players were to be sold.

I honestly believe the last 3 seasons of turmoil and the big clear out have happened good 2 year ahead of the likes of Stoke, Sunderland, Fulham and soon to be Newcastle in my opinion.

I'll go with all that

Just to get back on topic - I listened to the original interview in French - it bares zero resemblance to the Flemish quote (he basically says it s up up his agent to deal with any transfer talk and that's pretty much it) - he does talk about his career but it definitely feels more like a long term thing. At no point does he mention Arsenal! He just needs to stop talking to sports journos!

I'm with you Belgian guy I found it very odd he didn't get it, even the fans player of the year. Instead they give it to a goalie who's let in over 60 goals and kept 1? clean sheet.

It is partly done to Lambert- he has been calling him 'world class' all season- so people bound to get interested! Everyone take a chill pill, I am fairly confident he will be hear next season.

Not sure there will be too many people taking Lambert's opinion as gospel at the moment.

I personally think Monaco might come in with a ridiculous offer. They are up to Ligue 1 and just spent £60m on Rodrigeuz and Moutinho from Porto.

Every player has his price, so if he goes it would be a shame but as much as we're a stepping stone for him he could be a stepping stone for us - with £30m extra to play with if Lambert keeps the same philosophy of signing good young players it can only bode well. We're doing what Spurs did a few years back which is fine with me.

£30m would get 4 players of Benteke's quality (based on he cost £7m last summer) that just haven't been discovered or played at the highest level.

I suppose that's some consolation.

Contract shenanigans. Pay me more and I'll stay etc. He'll get a raise, a nice new contract and line up for us come the first day of the season.

And score a hatrick .

£30m and Benteke's wages are more likely to get us two £7m players with a little change when you figure in their wages, maybe two and a half.

Maybe we will sign the other half of Barry Bannan in that case?!

Fair point. Add in the fact we'll have an allocated budget for the summer spend and we're offloading a few we could be far better off by September.

£20m budget for the summer, £30m for Benteke, £10m for Bent, then probably another £10m in further sales of bit part players. Very rough estimates of course. That could be £70m right there and we'd obviously spend no where near that. I predict our wage bill will be lower next season and the squad will be better. Win win.

when well play at home against serbia ill make a signboard with: "benteke please stay at AVFC!!" =P

Go for it, that would be ace!

Expect the media to report it as 'Benteke urged to end stay at Villa'.
