He admitted he kissed her but did he admit that he knew her age?

I agree that it's totally reprehensible but I'd be absolutely staggered if Sunderland were punished.

Im sure footballers dont tell the club about every girl they have kissed :P

for me the club is just as bad as Johnson in this situation

I certainly wouldn't disagree with that Zatman,  I think suspending him only to then lift that suspension makes there actions look even worse, especially as it now seems he admitted his guilt.

All that said though, do you think Sunderland will be punished? I don't.

although wrong and also a serious crime, a lot of men find under age girls sexually attractive. when i say younger i mean 14,15 and i think this has always been the case in the past and present. but these days its a lot more frowned upon. is this peadophelia? im not doubting it is, im just asking peoples opinion. when i hear that word the first thing that comes in my head is men or women doing stuff with babies and infants. i know so many lads who have been with under age girls, and i know girls who slept about a lot whilst under age. at 14,15 people know what sex is and they know what being sexy is, and in this day and age where sex is everywhere from tv,internet, magazines, music etc etc is it any wonder more under age people are having sex. there is so much pressure  on young kids these days regarding doing stuff they should not be doing.

As Stefan says, the technical name for a sexual preference for post-pubescent girls is ephebophilia. It is not, in fact, a pathology, and is absolutely widespread across the population - hence 'teen' sections on porn sites. In human history terms, it is no time at all since girls who had passed puberty were married off and expected to begin families. It's only 30 years since The Sun were running a countdown to Samantha Fox's 16th birthday.

This preference isn't necessarily a problem, sexually, and arguably has evolutionary reasons for its existence. However, as a society, we have decided that girls under the age of consent are not mentally mature enough to make sexual decisions, hence the illegality.

Pedophilia is the sexual preference for pre-pubescent girls, and is a pathology. There's no evidence Adam Johnson is clinically a pedophile, however the general public and the media often use the term pedophile to refer to any sexual activity with someone under the age of consent.

This is pretty spot on really.

What Adam Johnson did doesn't seem to be paedophilia, but it's 1) illegal and 2) a blatant disregard for his position of power. Abuse of power and exploiting his position of power is a disgrace for me. He knew exactly what he wanted and he knew he could get it because he was Adam Johnson, star player.

Personally, he's an idiot, and a pretty awful human being for the above reasons, but I'll be holding back the nonce comments for the people who are actual paedophiles and child molesters. Which Johnson is not.

It's much more recently (and highlighted in the Leveson inquiry) that the Sun and others papers published a countdown to the 16th birthday of both Emma Watson and Charlotte Church. So it's been at least 30 years since they began, and continue to run such 'countdowns' to the sexual age of consent.

Quote

The Sun and the Sunday Sport are condemned for "counting down" to the 16th birthdays of celebrities including actor Emma Watson and singer Charlotte Church. "The implication is shocking – that millions of readers should share a joke about the sexual desirability of underage girls," according to the submission. "Both young women have since reported that they found this editorial upsetting," it said.

I knew a number of girls in my year at school 14/15 who had older boyfriends 17/18/19 and were sleeping with them.

I think this is where there's a grey area. There's a big difference between a 17 year old lad sleeping with his 15 year old girlfriend and a 28 year old man and a 15 year old. And yes at 14 girls think it's all very sophisticated. I remember one of the girl's in my class when we were 14, stunning, looked a lot older, but she had a 28 year old boyfriend. And as teenagers we didn't see anything wrong with it. As an adult, I think, what a sicko! He definitely knew how old she was as well.

@TheAuthority Very good point, well remembered. The Sun in particular has a problem with this, but the Mail also has had one or two WTF moments with underage girls as well.

I think in this case, the girl knew it was wrong but didn't want to get her football team's star player into trouble.

I understand what you are saying.  But Adam Johnson knew what he was doing, as a 28 year old man.  He used his position of "rich footballer" to get into her pants.  He was her hero, he knew she was just 15 (I think this happened in March and she wasn't 16 until November).  He googled what the law was, and still went ahead and did "stuff" with her.

I do however feel sorry for some 18/19 year old lads who go clubbing, get with a girl who lies or isn't very clear with how old they are.  Christ, some 14 year old girls look 18 to me sometimes.  This can also happen the other way round too with women that get with underage lads.  As you say, they know how to be "sexy and flirtatious" and some of them openly are.  When I was at school there was a 13 year old who got pregnant and came back to year 11 with a toddler.

The problem with Johnson is that he knew about her age and still went ahead with it, making things worse, his girlfriend had just had his daughter.. The guy is a scum bag.

Jesus Christ that's grim :/

How on earth do they get away with that?

Despite her being objectively very pretty and desirable, I actually find it difficult to find Emma Watson attractive because I associate her with the little kid from the Harry Potter movies that I didn't watch until my mid 20s.

She brought the toddler to school? Was it crawling around in the back of class or something?

No, she brought it in once, but I think it was nan who looked after it while mum was in school.

Was very peculiar.
