The Randy Lerner thread

Unsure whether I am allowed to post this here, but I'll make one final run at risking the wrath of a 'moderator'

Randy Lerner will shortly arrive in Birmingham for his first visit since September.

No wrath. I just pointed out that you said you weren't going to post anything more about plane spotting but lasted less than 24 hours with this self imposed black out.

It was meant in jest, it's not my fault you didn't take it that way.

Press conference today. Randy Lerner's jet did indeed arrive at Birmingham Airport on Tuesday. Will ask PL about it today. #avfc

I don't know why the press bother asking any interesting questions in press conferences as managers never give anything away.

His response will be something along the lines of "Well he owns the club doesn't he? He has come back to discuss internal matters"

Aston Villa goalkeeper Brad Guzan has jumped to the

defence of the club's owner, Randy Lerner.

It has been a frustrating season for Villa and Lerner,

valued at over £1billion, recently hinted he may sell the

club after eight years at the helm.

However, Guzan has insisted that Lerner, who also owned

the Cleveland Browns in the NFL for ten years, does not

deserve criticism and has moved the club in the right

direction.

"Randy has been a really good owner," the 29-year-old

said in The Sun.

"Despite where we are in the league, the club is in a

better place than before he arrived.

"He understands the history and the passion of Aston

Villa.

"You don't always see that, with Americans especially.

"He's built a beautiful training ground, improved the

stadium and cleared the club's debts.

"To criticise him after spending upwards of £250million of

his own money - that is extremely harsh."

Right direction? can only see us going one direction.  Probably sign that boy who Gabby wrote off from them.

Yep, if all this pans out that we get a new owner this summer then personally I don't really think badly of Lerner. He gave it a proper go and was let down by the people he had around him who couldn't make proper use of the resources he made available.

Yes he hired McLeish, but a healthy Houllier might not have been such a bad appointment, and as far as Lambert goes it's mission accomplished if the takeover happens.

He had a good crack at it, and £250m is a hell of a lot of money.

He wont lose much money if any when he sells and look what he has left for the last 4 years.

Just a technicality , I know, but we appear to be pretty much in the same place as we were at the end of the 2005-6 season. (Then:16th in the league, 1.11 points per game, weak squad; Now: 15th in the league, 1.03 points per game, weak squad).

Exactly. And he was happy to gamble with our premier league status to make sure he doesn't lose much of that. Guzan has gone done in my estimations.
