Ooh-Ah
T Thought he picked up a medal even though he didn't play in the Final as he had accumulated sufficient games in the competition. Apologies, he might have played in the earlier rounds. Still, I doubt he feels as though he truly "won" a major trophy.
AndyBM
when will siegrist be ready to step as as no2/cup keeper?
Jarpie
Didn't find own topic for Given so I'll put this here: http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11095/8385557/Shay-Given-admits-he-may-have-left-Aston-Villa-if-they-had-not-enjoyed-good-cup-runs Shay Given has admitted Aston Villa's cup success this season has stopped him from leaving the club. Given, who is set to start Tuesday's Capital One Cup semi-final against Bradford, has lost his first-team spot to Brad Guzan this season with the cup competitions offering the former Republic of Ireland man the chance of starting games. The 36-year-old admits he is not happy at playing second fiddle to Guzan, but insists he has no problem with Villa boss Paul Lambert's decision to drop him. "It's difficult when you don't play," said Given. "It is the manager who picks the team and for me, when I get the chance, it's important I remind the manager that there is still plenty of life left in me and still plenty of years left ahead of me. "I'm not used to this position but these cup games have been important. Had we been knocked out in the first round of the League Cup, I might not have been so happy. Sometimes you sulk about it and have bad days like all people do. "I can't say I'm quite happy to sit on the bench because I'm not. I want to play football, but it's the manager's choice and I've just got to try and impress him every time I get a chance. "But Wembley is touching distance away so hopefully there are quite a few games coming up and hopefully I'll play my part."

Tomaszk
I'd play Guzan in the final. And both Semis to be fair. How unlucky is he going to be after the last final, Lambert goes with Given over him this time?
Zatman
well Given would have played most games except 2nd round so be unfair on him, was a bit of uproar at time when MON chose Freidel over Guzan. unfair then and be unfair now
Swerbs
Given should play the semis and final, would be very harsh on him if he didn't.
MMFy
Utter shit this evening. Might as well have had Steven Hawking in goal for their second.
GonzoAvfc
Thought he was awful tonight, Guzan would have had the second one and would of at least had a go with the third.
AVFCforever1991
Guzan needs to play every game from now on. But to be Fair, Given was not getting a lot of protection from the Defence. Edited January 8, 2013 by AVFCforever1991
Pilchard
His reaction speed totally gone. Guzan wouldn't have let the last two in
NulliSecundus
Can we start a topic called Time to put Brad Guzan back between the sticks?
Mendi
Given not played hardly of our manager fault, don't blame Given tonight. Edited January 8, 2013 by Mendi
Mantis
Personally I don't think Guzan would've let the first one in either. Given was rooted to his line. Put Guzan in for the second leg and get rid of Given ASAP. Not worth his wages.
KjParton
Given out. he spouted all this bollocks about how he is trying his hardest in the cups but in reality he's utterly wank. Guzan in for 2nd leg
AvfcRigo82
I wonder if Given has just gave Lambert the excuse to put Guzan back in for the 2nd leg and possibly the final. .
AndyM3000
There shouldn't be an excuse needed, its a massive game for us and chance to get to Wembley, if we put our strongest starting 10 out then why aren't we playing our best keeper? Guzan is better, play him.
MMFy
Given not played hardly of our manager fault, don't blame Given tonight. He was so utterly shit I'm my not sure I see any reason to play him ever again. He looked like he was out of his depth against a team from the fourth division. His performance last night reminded me of Adam Rachel coming on after Michael Oakes ghost sent off for handball about 16 years ago. Not attacking Adam there, but for a seasoned international, Given looked like a clueless rookie.
Stevo985 Posted January 9, 2013 VT Supporter Share Posted January 9, 2013 What exactly did Given do wrong? Personally I thought he was fine and didn't really have a chance with any of the goals. That's not to say I wouldn't prefer Guzan in the sticks, but I think it's harsh to say Given could really have done anything.
limvillian
This is hilarious , people are actually suggesting Guzan would have saved the third. you just couldn't make it up.
