Xela
They should clear Rolf now, pre trial. If Barlow and Hairy Cornflake can walk free, Rolf surely has the cigar out already! I wonder what's going on with these prosecutions though. Surely the CPS has to build a compelling case, otherwise it's pointless going to trial. The 'evidence' must be very flimsy .... although Cornflake had over 10 different (and some respected/professional people) making claims against him, yet he walks. Have they ALL made it up? Rolf is a cert to be charged with something as they have allegedly found child porn on his computer. So I guess he will plead to that. As for the historical assault charges then we'll have to see. With Roache and Cornflake, there couldn't have never been any real evidence due to the age of the alleged complaints. CPS dropped a huge bollock with this and if more and more people are found innocent, which i'm sure they will, then they will have some questions to answer. Interesting teaser, apparently coming in one of tomorrow's papers. If this was true then he would have arrested and charged surely?
bickster Posted February 15, 2014 Moderator Share Posted February 15, 2014 The problem with many of these cases esp the DLT one is actually getting evidence. DLT was a notorious groper, so bad it was almost an industry wide joke - the hairy octopus. But getting actual evidence of it in these specific cases would be hard, shocked the prosecution didn't call Liz Kershaw though, she even wrote about him being a groper in her autobiography. Tbh though if he can defeat these charges by calling the bloody Chuckle Brothers as witnesses then they couldn't have been up to much
bickster Posted February 15, 2014 Moderator Share Posted February 15, 2014 Interesting teaser, apparently coming in one of tomorrow's papers. If this was true then he would have arrested and charged surely? You'd hope so wouldn't you but it appears not. There are an awful lot of accounts out there from ex-policemen etc. told that they were warned off certain cases and it is nearly always hinted that there is at least one Thatcher era Cabinet Minister involved, all linked to the N Wales scandal, a hotel in Brighton and iirc a "club" in Barnes… Way too much smoke for there to be no fire imo
Xela
DLT to have a retrial on 2 cases. Thoughts? My first thought was that it seems the CPS are determined to keep having a go until they get a conviction.
jon_c
I think if you have a good barrister you are never going to get convicted on testimony alone.

My second thought was, if the cases he was cleared on are no longer involved in the trial a new jury might find it easier to convict the well known serial groper.I do however think it is very difficult to prosecute someone today for something that happened 4 decades ago when sexual morality was somewhat different to what it is today

I do however think it is very difficult to prosecute someone today for something that happened 4 decades ago when sexual morality was somewhat different to what it is today It is my opinion that the shock-troops of gender feminism - the sworn enemies of the oppressive patriarchy - have entered the law and have at last gained enough power and influence to take vengeance on the symbols of sexual harassment and oppression, who enjoyed impunity from the protective patriarchy during 1960s and 70's. The boot is well and truly on the other foot now and they are putting it in with some glee. They just see it as pay-back time. privateer
I hope they throw the piece of shit in jail. He's always come across as a nasty, slimy piece of work and as he's now been found guilty of being a sexual predator a bit of bird is called for. He'll not get the kind of sentence that Stuart Hall got, I wouldn't imagine, but at least he won't get any credit for a guilty plea.

Genie
Max Clifford guilty then. I remember waaaay, back when this whole investigation kicked off he said something along the lines of "I have had a number of my clients contact me concerned about this investigation".... basically translated into "oh dear, I might be in a spot of bother here".
