Mantis
You're for playing Stevens over Warnock, but if Mcleish chose to do this and it completely backfired, would you stick up for him considering you would do the same? I think most people who are anti-Mcleish would use it as a stick to beat him with if I'm honest.Yes, I would defend him. Warnock has been playing dreadfully and any half decent manager would drop him. Mantis, just wondering, can you give an example when you stuck up for McLeish on any decision he made that didn't go well? I am honestly wondering.I agreed with dropping Warnock for Clark against Wolves for example.
briny_ear
This suggests pretty clearly that McLeish doesn't have dropping Warnock in mind Enda Stevens will have to wait for chance at Aston Villa by Mat Kendrick, Birmingham Mail Feb 4 2012 ALEX McLeish will not be rushed into replacing shaking Stephen Warnock with budget back-up Enda Stevens as a quick fix to cure Villa’s left-back woes. McLeish signed Stevens for £100,000 from Shamrock Rovers last month with an eye on the future and will expose him gradually to the Premier League’s pressures. And the Villa boss suggested Nathan Baker, Eric Lichaj and a recovering Chris Herd are ahead of the Irish rookie in the full-back pecking order. “We bought him a boy in from the Irish league for £100k and people are asking ‘where he is’?” said McLeish. “He is not someone to rush. He has trained with the first team. He is comfortable on the ball. He will get his chance sometime, but there are a couple even more experienced lads ahead of him.” McLeish hailed Warnock’s character and hinted the experienced defender would keep his place for tomorrow’s trip to Newcastle, despite a horrid run of form culminating in an own goal in Wednesday’s draw with QPR. “It’s not nice for Stephen to be in for criticism, but that happens,” he said. “It’s about showing your strength of character. “He had the bad header in the first half and he was angry with himself. “But in the second half he was decent and I can say ‘well done’. He didn’t bury his head in his hands and he showed good character.”
Dodgyknees
I am not happy that he will not be dropped... but that is good management tbh.
cheltenham_villa
i dont see why he should be dropped. Own goal aside i dont think hes been any worse than the rest of our back four recently. We saw against Wolves that we dont have any other competent left backs. Clark came in and couldnt handly Kightly at all, Warnock was bought on and quickly nullified his threat. Certainly a replacement in the summer but right now we have no better options.
TrentVilla Posted February 5, 2012 Moderator Share Posted February 5, 2012 I'm glad he isn't going to drop him, doing so would be a mistake because as was shown at Wolves Warnock even in his current form he is our best option.

DeepDish
The fact that it seems difficult to drop our defeners (maybe due to weak back ups), is making them too comfortable and costing us goals after errors. Beside Cuellar, I think our back up defenders are too poor. But if Cuellar had come in after errors earlier, I am sure Dunne and Collins would have had more concentration and improved their play. AndyBM
warnock is our only option... clark, baker and now stevens, arent ready to be thrown in the deep end and play a permentant LB role, stevens might not be ready till next season, clark prefers Cb and does ok at DM, and baker im not to sure on tbh

Stevo985 Posted February 5, 2012 VT Supporter Share Posted February 5, 2012 Warnock isn't great, but I stil think he's better than Lichaj in that position. Stevens, who knows. He might be a revelation, but I doubt it. Certainly don't want to see him thrown into the deep end. Fingers crossed that Warnock makes up for his mistake last week in this game

Herd was thrown into the deep end at right back but got man of the match for that performance. Yet our manager thought it was a good idea to buy someone for 4m who's proven worse than him in that position. It won't hurt to try one of them in position considering Warnock is just a disaster all over. Even when he isn't making mistakes, he still gets turned over easily. Lichaj isn't Clark because LB/RB are his main positions, where as for Clark he was played out of position.
sne
Get that idiot out of our team! Reckless challenge on Taylor, broken leg? Should have been sent off, lucky for him they scored. Hopefully the FA will suspend him

djdabush
Poor again. No doubt he'll get heaps of praise though because it's Warnock. course he will, like he always does. He won't have supposed fans waiting to jump on his back will he? His confidence is clearly shot and needs an extended time out of the team. I have no problem with his commitment (dispelling all the rubbish coming for 'ITKs') but he looks like a rabbit in the headlights in all honesty. Some of the bile aimed towards him is completely pathetic and unnecessary though.
