Darren Bent

I was thinking back to the goals he scored in 2011(I had to cheat in the end by referring to Soccerbase).

He got the winner against Man City;

Equaliser against West Ham (we won 2-1);

He got the two in the draw at Goddison;

The two in the Arsenal win;

And the equaliser in the Stoke draw.

That's seven huge goals for the club and for that I'll always be grateful.

It wasn't too long ago we were all shitting it that Bent was gonna leave for Liverpool. Out of all the high rollers I think Bent is the only "keepable" one.

Yeah I wouldn't mind if he stayed, provided his assumed sale isn't part of any transfer booty. However, if we had to choose which 'high roler' to keep, I'd probably keep N'Zogbia. Not only was he very effective when used (sparingly) last season, he's in a position we're not blessed in regarding numbers and it's a position not easily replaced.

People saying keep Bent:

Not only is he totally not what we want, it can not be good for team morale if one bloke is on 70k or so and the rest are on peanuts. Especially not one who is barely playing a part.

But this contradicts the point that you've so badly flogged to death.

Should the rest of the team be annoyed because one player is earning more!?

There's a pay disparity across my department at work - it ranges from around 30-40K for people doing similar jobs - but do the people at the lower end of the scale kick up a fuss and lose morale!? No, they get on with it.

Perhaps footballers should do to!? Or perhaps a footballer isn't like a man on the street!?

I don't know; I'm confused what side of the fence you sit on with this argument. Should footballers kick up a fuss and act like the average worker (as per your previous posts) or shouldn't they (as per your post above)!?

Especially when Bent has earned that money scoring lots of goals at the highest level, the rest are proven lower league/lesser foreign league at best, so if they want his money they have to earn it like he has.

The good thing is Bent wants a move, so football is his priority not the circa £6.5M we owe him. I'm sure his agent is looking, and if he can get a reasonable offer, there can be an agreement reached where all parties are happy.

Darren Bent remains keen on a move to Newcastle United, although he will seek reassurances manager Alan Pardew is committed to staying at the club following the controversial appointment of Joe Kinnear as director of football.

Bent returned from his honeymoon over the weekend and will look to sort out his future quickly, although Aston Villa — who are still hopeful they can hold on to Christian Benteke in this transfer window — have still not received any bids.

That has more to do with their asking price than a lack of interest in the England international. Newcastle United and Fulham would both like to sign the 29-year-old, but they are not willing to pay more than £6 million for a player who was effectively transfer-listed when he was told by manager Paul Lambert he could leave this summer.

Bent is intrigued by the possibility of playing for Newcastle, despite previously playing for their bitter rivals Sunderland, and has a good relationship with Pardew following their time together at Charlton.

But the striker is wary of the uncertainty surrounding Newcastle following the arrival of Kinnear and fears Pardew holds little sway in terms of recruitment. There is also the risk the manager could quit or be forced out.

Apologies, posting from mobile.

This article very much seems like a come and get me plea from Bents people.

But the striker is wary of Pardew's previous history of being a dirty little cheating hobag who has sex with his player's wives and girlfriends. The Villa forward has recently got hitched and fears for the fidelity of his new marriage if he were to play for a snivelling little weasel like the Newcastle boss.

We can't even sell Bent. How do you sell Ireland

the only way Ireland is going is the old newsagent porn trick

Three players wrapped together for £11M

You can see Bent on the Front, Clark on the back so you take a punt.

It's only when you get home and unwrap it you realise you've been a bit done.

I don't think we'll have a great deal of trouble selling him. May have to lower our asking price by a million or two but I can't see wages being an issue. Situations like this where a move would be good for all parties aren't normally where the problems lie - it's with situations like Ireland where the club want him out but nobody wants to buy him and the player himself is (presumably) happy to rot in the reserves on 50k a week.

Is he back at the club for preseason training??

The OS has posted a few pics from the first day back but couldn't see him anywhere (then again, the pics mainly focused on the newboys!)

If he's not back, is his move imminent?

I'm grateful but I also recognise how much Young, Downing and Albrighton laid it on a plate for him. When they were gone he cut a pretty limited and lonely figure. He's the professional footballers' answer to the playground goal hanger.

Lambert wouldn't have dropped him without first asking him to pull his finger out. He can't create a chance for himself. He can't hold up play. He can't link up play. He was club captain at one stage - Where was he when we needed an extra man to put a shift in and lead by example.

He's burning a hole in the clubs finances. I'd keep Zog over him.

I don't think Bent's sale makes any difference - he isn't cut out for Lambert's style of play and he'll be gone regardless of whether Benteke goes or not because he just isn't going to regularly play for us.
