BigJim
Then we have Delph and Benteke who have releases clauses, but we don't have to sell. If Delph is your captain, then you don't sell him for 10m. Benteke is his only consistent striker, so you don't sell him unless you have a very competent replacement lined-up. Surely the whole point of the release clauses that we DO have to sell if anybody offers the amount stipulated?
Zatman
Was pretty unsold on the loyalty BS in January. Accused of being over negative as per. Looking like it's just more reality. Man City come knocking and he will go, no doubt. A player full of confidence who will believe he can make it at the very top. He certainly won't be thinking I'm going to be 2nd best. You don't get into the England squad with that attitude. also sure you spent most of time when he signed his contract saying its because nobody was interested in him
Zatman
its meh for me anyway if he goes. He got better at end of the season but he still hasnt got enough end product for me and probably our most overrated player. 3 goals in over 100 games really is shocking, same amount as Sidwell and Cleverley got for the club
Popular Post HanoiVillan
I notice that about 5 pages have been added since I last checked the thread, so I wonder if there have been any new rumours. Of course not. One of our members talks to Delph in person, he says he isn't leaving. Journalists post contradictory claims about a release clause, including two contradictory claims within the same edition of the same newspaper. Everybody believes the worst. The hyperventilating on here is astonishing at times. We have no idea whether or not he's leaving, but sure, let's call him a Judas anyway just in case.

David-Copenhagen
Fair play to Delph for signing a contract in Jan, and fair play for getting a release clause as well. I don't think he is looking to go and lets not got on his back just because some journalists write a story.
Dante_Lockhart
I refuse to believe that Delph has an 8m release clause in his contract.
NeilS
You would have thought if his release fee was so low that teams would be lining up to activate it? This makes me think that Delph possibly wants to stay at least one more season to see how things work out. I think if we struggle again this season then he will be off next summer for certain. If we have a good year and things start to look good again under new ownership, I wouldn't be surprised to see him sign a new contract with a higher release clause inserted that is more of a true reflection of his worth. Stevo985 Posted June 29, 2015 VT Supporter Share Posted June 29, 2015 May be that the release clause was a relegation clause or something and the journo has run with it. Or it's totally made up. Or he doesn't want to leave.

SikhInTrinity
Pretty sure if he had an 8m release clause, he would have been gone by now.
Popular Post TrentVilla Posted June 29, 2015 Moderator Popular Post Share Posted June 29, 2015 This has been a busy thread the last few days, its hard to keep up on if Delph is currently deemed loyal, disloyal or somewhere in between. But really nothing has changed since a week ago has it? A week ago we didn't know the finer detail of his contract and a week later we still don't although we all collectively think we know a little more than we did. But what do we actually know? That there is a release clause? That there might be a clause? That it might be related to relegation? That it might be at a value of £10m or £8m or £6.50 and a king sized Twix? Put simply we don't know, but it seems highly likely that it contains some sort of clause. But didn't everyone kind of think that it probably did? In this day an age of player power and agent involvement being what it is. Would it not seem likely that a player like Delph would want some protection when signing a new deal with a team in serious danger of relegation? Should it not be expected that the agent would want to protect his client and indeed his own interests? I don't know what is in Delph's contract but it seems highly probably there is a clause and its likely that any value of said clause is impacted by the position we were in at the point of negotiation. Even if the clause if £4m it is still better that he is here than him being on a free on Wednesday. As for Delph, the lad has irrespective of what the future holds shown loyalty to the club and Lerner and that in football is a rare rare thing. I don't really subscribe to the view he 'owed' us for the time out injured or 'we showed him loyalty", we simply honored a contract as we would expect him to do. That he thinks differently, that he thinks there is a debt owed by him to us is up to him, its great that he feels that way, it certainly helps us out but I'd understand if he didn't. Whatever the clause may or may not be, if indeed it exists, which I fully expect it does, I still don't think much has changed in a week. Look back on what he said when he signed, I think he meant it, this isn't Stuart Downing but I guess i can understand why people instantly fear the worst. I think Delph meant what he said, I think he loves playing too much to go to the likes of Man City and fall into the trap of Sinclair, Milner, Johnson and co and sit on the bench filling their English player quota. Especially when he is making his name in the England squad ahead of a summer championship. Come the start of the season I fully expect he will be in our colours (not playing for West Ham!). It will be a long summer and speculation will come and go but I personally think we can have faith in Delph to be true to his word and be our captain next season. What comes after that, we shall have to wait and see I kind of figure that will depend on who takes over from Lerner and how the club moves forward. As, when or if we change hands the club needs to show fans and the likes of Delph some ambition because its been absent for years, perhaps that could start by trying to get a new deal with our skipper and removing or amending a clause.... which may or may not exist....

Shaw_nuff
Signing a deal in Jan wasn't just a loyalty thing, it was an insurance policy. Get seriously crocked without a contract and you're fcked. That's why it's so risky for the likes of bulsar Ron to 'wind' their contract down.... so he was always wanting off. Delph wasn't showing his loyalty, He was being sensible.
