good to see some fight here, halting a bit of aussie momentum before the next test at least. Keep them bowling as long as possible, and focus on the little wins, bat out the day, bat to lunch tomorrow, pass the innings defeat mark etc.

well that is an excellent response. Fair play England, showed plenty of fight. Interesting day tomorrow. Australia still clear favourites, but if these two can bed in tomorrow morning, the prospect of weary bowlers still to face Pope, Stokes and Buttler in the middle order could make for some fun tomorrow.  But for now, job done, batted through, got that big partnership and confidence for two of our batsmen. And looks like Burns got a really good ball. Hameed's was soft, but that aside, good stuff.

I guess the target should be to get the game into the fifth day - if we can do that, then we'll have offered up some decent resistance.

Soon as the two current batsmen are out you just know we will collapse like a pack of cards when @blandyfarts.

So, two batsmen over 80,

Crikey, I knew we had an ageing squad but didn't realise it was that bad.  No wonder no one gives us a chance.

The worst.  At least needed them to get to the new ball.

Need some vintage Stokes now to hang about with Root but he's rather an unknown quantity right now.  Could hold it together for 100 or could be gone in a minute.
