Guess what I just did?

I just watched "The Big Lebowski" FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER.

It was, err... good.

Of course, you now have to watch Fargo if you havent seen it already. Then you will get the "joke" of why everybody always says..

Shut the **** up, Donny.

..to Steve Buscemi.

Bubba Ho-Tep. The concept is stupid, but brilliant. Elvis is in a Southern retirement home, having grown tired of fame in the 70s and given it all to the best impersonator he could find, who subsequently died on the loo 1977. Suddenly people start dying in the retirement home and Elvis, along with JFK (pathed up after the assassination attempt, dyed black, and forgotten about) investigate why.

It's really short, has Bruce Campbell as Elvis, low bugget stuff that just makes you smile with it's brilliance.

I couldnt get into this film at all, and it came highly recommended.

It is high concept (Elvis? In a retirement home? Fighting a mummy?) and I guess you have to find that amusing from the start or you will never have a chance. Cinematic marmite.

:D

Yeah, that was a great film. Brilliant sound-track too.

Open Range

One of the best westerns ever made

Now I'm a HUGE western fan, but I thought that "Open Range" was a like 50s B-movie given a big budget. Mildly enjoyable, but ultimately routine.

Nowhere near Duvall's finest moment - "Lonesome Dove". Now THAT'S a great western.

Already seen Fargo. Preferred it to TBL, if I'm honest.

Watched In Bruges last night.

Was very impressed. Very amusing as well and I think it's the first time I've ever heard Colin Farrell talk in his native accent..

Saw that one a couple of weeks ago. Very good and it must be the best acting Farrell has ever done. :thumb:

Saw "The Uninvited" last night. Quite decent, I have to say, though I think the story deserved better actors. Not an original twist at all, but decent. Good enough horror film for me, though it wasn't that frightening.

Ah but The Big Lebowski is at its funniest at about the 7th or 8th viewing.

Report back then about which one you like more...

saw Scoop over the weekend.

Woody Allen film starring Scarlett Johannson.

to be fair, i only watched it cos it had Scarlett in it, but it was pretty decent.

a bit of light entertainment, with a couple of surreal moments.

reminded me a bit of Match Point (also starring Scarlett & also directed by Woody Allen).

Match Point is a far better film beause Scarlett looks hotter in it, and gets semi-naked. :)

I certainly didn't hate it - I enjoyed it a lot.

But I have no intention of watching it again. There are very, very few films I watch more than once - Casablanca, It's a Wonderful Life (at Christmas), a few classic westerns. Comedies, virtually never.
