The Film Thread

I use computers in work, but I don't work in computers no. Just seeing old CRT monitors and slow dial up loading type images looks very dated now, given flat panel monitors and Smartphones.

I'm not slighting the movie, it's a great movie. Just saying, was struck by how old it looked.

Oh...  I thought it was a serious. Apologies, I get defensive over my loved one  :P

Not sure if this is a typo now.

I love The Dink

In relation to Bourne Identity being dated.

firstly is CRT monitors in the CIA, seeing them in a 2002 film (a film I wouldn't have classed as old) just set the tone.

Next when they say, give me all the data on Bourne the data appears line by line from vertically down as if the PC is a 486

Next when they get their photos, they have a picture, and "enhance" the section with Bourne in it, first it's grainy and then it get's more detail again from the top

Finally when they send the photo to all their agents, the photo has to load on the monitor, top down like it's in 1995 and on a dialup connection.

The whole film felt closer to "The Net" than modern times. Which it actually is. Was just strange to see it as so dated.

Ha, I see! When somebody says a movie is "dated" they normally mean cinematically, that it has lost it's shine with age. Something like Fight Club for example.

I was not expecting that answer! Appreciated anyway.

It was just a random observation. As I considered the film modern. But I suppose it is 11 years old now. Just shows how much things have changed in that time. The film was positioned as the CIA had "high tech" stuff at their disposal to find Bourne, hence how "dated" the high tech CIA felt.

Just watch it again I suppose..

The film itself is still superb and it's influence on cinema is stark. All fights are now like Bourne, killing people by choking them to death, more "realism" to things. Not one guy hitting a combo of punches, then the next guy hitting a combo back etc..

Stumbled in pissed late the other night, and started watching a film called "Harold's Going Stiff".  Not homo porn as the name might suggest,  but a brilliant British zombie mock documentary.  A superb piece of film making, about an overweight nurse who cares for, and develops a friendship with, an OAP who gets the zombie disease from eating a meat snack.  Poignant, funny and brilliantly acted.  My kind of film in every way.

Saw Hangover III last night as there wasn't anything else worth viewing / hadn't already seen

pretty unfunny by and large  , the funniest bit is during the closing credits

couldn't repeat the first film and thankfully this is the last one

Peter Bradshaw at the Guardian has given 'Only God Forgives' five stars.  So, unfortunately, I must conclude that it's shit.

But it has Ryan Gosling in it

Gosling is an awesome actor though. The person who created that video has obviously never seen Half Nelson, The Believer or Lars and the real girl.

Yes you mention 3 of the best films  he's been in! I also liked Stay. Not sure about the ones he's been in lately though. Wish he'd have been in "The lovely bones" and not Mark Walberg
