One of those days. Thought we played well at times, but just lacked the quality to unlock a well drilled defence, and then got sucker punched a couple of times which was always going to be their game plan… they executed well.

We look much better when we can use our pace and attack on the transition. In this game it was tighter and suited a more technical approach in and around the box, which we just weren’t able to execute.

I gave MOTM to Luiz because he was tidy but tbh everyone was poor today. Some nice moments from Digne and Torres in possession, but nothing to write home about.

On to the next game

Frustrating one. They got caught offside a dozen times and if Zaniolo gets a free kick for the first goal and Martinez doesn't uncharacteristically chuck one in for the second, it might be a stodgy 0-0, but we just didn't have enough enterprise going forward for the situation we'd put ourselves in

Digne was our best attacking threat, but that cross Pau slid him in for at the end looked like it'd be harder to miss one of our players than not, and he somehow basically made a decent clearance for them

Ref was crap but they deserved to win. Hopefully it's one of those where a detailed angry inquest from Emery puts things right and we're back to at least continuing some home form

Awful day at the office, everything we touched in sight of their box turned to shit.

I think it’s just one of those days but some questionable points re: strength, and also Bailey for Zolo at half time? Yes he lost the ball a few times but he was causing problems. Bailey was more Bailey than Bailey himself today - run, fall, sleep, repeat.

Worrying that our game plan relies on us going a goal up or at least not a goal down. Title chase hangs in the balance.

Important not to overreact after one poor performance and result… mustn’t ignore all the positive and impressive ones.

Can’t win them all, we will be back.

Unai needs some better players in certain positions imo though…. must strengthen at least at RB in Jan.

These players have and will perform a lot better than they did today.

2 crappy goals conceded which played right into forest's hands.

We still had some nice passing plays and build up. Diaby was disappointing but thought digne and torres had good games. Torres passing was pretty much our best attacking threat in the 2nd half.

Back to Back home games to bounce back. No point overreacting.

Not many sides stop us scoring, they defended well and were committed. Too many were well off it today, surprisingly our better players too (Emi, Dougie, Diaby).

Thought Pau, McGinn and Digne were trying to make something happen and same with Youri when he came on.

Bad day all in all, Fulham a must win to keep in touch and not let the barcodes get infront of us.

Poor, never looked like scoring.

It was a typical toothless Villa performance of old that we thought were behind us.

Fair play to Forrest though, their game plan worked and they defended well.

Bad day at the office but still 5th and a good opportunity to make amends against Fulham at home next week

Dogshit.

We cannot have any aspirations of moving forward if we have such a bad away record.

I wish we had the squad to drop a few over such a pathetic arrogant entitled performance.

Outsmarted and outplayed by Steve Cooper.

I'd not pay any single players salary for that.

Sort this away disease out now or we are done regards moving forward.

Perfect game plan from Forest. Two early goals then sit deep, compress the field entirely into their own half and chase down our players with the ball relentlessly and with physicality: Worked a treat and it looked liked men against boys at times. Conceding the soft goals was the main error from us, without that Forest have to come out and play leaving more time and space on the field to make better decision and pick passes. Need to cut out the soft goals.

Nottingham Forest have used the blueprint on how to beat this Villa side. We can not complain, they controlled it.

Be physical. Villa are a weak team.

Hassle players in pairs/threes in ALL areas* as we panic, especially defensively.

*However, give Zanioli, Bailey and Diaby a bit of space - they'll trip themselves up by trying to beat everyone three times over.

Keep hitting balls over the top, odds are you eventually beat the offside trap.

Don't panic, even when two down, Villa will play out the back at a snail's pace.

Don't worry about the bench - Dendonker and Carlos aren't going to change the scoreline.

Take the lead. Villa are horrific at coming from behind.

Go home, feet up.

Just now, CVByrne said:

Yep. They happen.

Our away from does need improvement for sure though

Agreed.

Two 25 yarders and then defensive wall for the other 89 minutes.  We dominated possession we just didn’t do anything with it, poor passing and just didn’t click.

We need to address this away form.  We lost that rather than Them winning it in my opinion.

Shame!
